Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FLOYD U. LYTLE,
0F JASPER, MINNESOTA.
CLEANING AND POLISHING COMPOSITION.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FLOYD C. LYTLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jasper, in the county of Pipestone and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cleaning and P01- ishing Compositions, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved cleaning and polishing composition and has for its primary-object to provide a very simple and inexpensive preparation which will thoroughly clean and polish wood and metal surfaces.
It is another and more particular object of the invention to provide a composition for the above purpose which contains no ingredients which will scratch or otherwise mar the surface to which it is applied, and which will produce a very high polish with a minimum amount of rubbing.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the several ingredients mixed together substantially in the proportions specified.
In carrying out my invention and in making a predetermined quantity of the com- I position, I use one and one-half gallons of soft water. To this water one gallon of raw linseed oil and two bars of white laundry soap, heated and dissolved is added. These several ingredients are thoroughly mixed to gether, and the solution is applied to the surface with a soft cloth.
The soap and water acts as a cleanser, re-

moving all dirt and grease from the surface while the soap together with the oil produces a wax like polish. I have found my improved polish particularly desirable for use in cleaning and polishing wood work surfaces, the wood and metal parts of automobiles, picture frames, and also leather or any other article having a finished surface. The composition when applied will eradicate scratches, remove stains or polish and clean a finished surface after it is scorched or burned by hot dishes.
From the above description, the manner of producing the preparation, and its several advantages in practical use will be clearly and fully understood. While I have above referred to the relative proportions of the several ingredients which I have found to give the best results, it will be understood of course that these proportions may be varied within certain limits.
I claim:
A mixture of soft water, raw linseed oil and White laundry soap, compounded in the manner and proportions specified and thereby constituting a composition whereby the soap and the water act as a grease remover, and the soap together with the oil produces a wax-like polish.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
FLOYD C. LYTLE.
Witnesses:
