Description
H A NEUMANN TROUSERS GREASE RETAINER. APPLICATION FILED AUG. 22, 1908.
Patented Nov. 23, 1909.
ljfnesses {5M HUGO ARTHUR NEUMANN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
TROUSERS-GREASE RETAINER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 23, 1909.
Application filed. August 22, 1908. Serial No. 449,862.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Hum ARTHUR NEU- MANN, a subject of the Emperor of Austria- I-Iungary, residing at New York, N. Y., in the United States of America, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers-Crease Retainers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to trousers crease retainers.
The object of my invention is to provide a device which will retain the crease in trousers and effectively prevent distortion of the shape of trousers caused by pressure of the knee-cap.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the character described which is easily attachable, and which will outline the crease of the trousers even when the fabric of the trousers is stretched to its limit.
My invention consists of the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as herein illustrated, described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this application, I have illustrated a form of embodiment of my invention, in which drawings similar reference characters designate corresponding parts, and in which;
Figure 1 is a front elevation; Fig. 2 is a perspective showing the application of the invention to a section of trousers leg; and, Fig. 3 is a transverse section on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
In the application of well known devices of a flexible nature, having a central V shaped portion, it has been found that when pressure is exerted the V shaped portion is pressed into a plane surface thus destroying the crease. Further, it has been found that in devices of the character described, disposed opposite the position of the knee, when the wearer is in seated position the knee. cap slips below the protecting device, and causes the trousers to bag. It is to obviate these difficulties that my invention is designed.
Referring to the drawings 1 designates a sheet of flexible resilient material, preferably formed from a vulcanized rubber compound. The sheet 1 terminates in a lower, rounded and enlarged portion 2, which is located on the trousers leg about one inch below the knee cap, so that when the wearer sits the knee cap will come directly beneath the rounded and enlarged portion 2. On the outer face of the sheet 1 there is provided a plurality of attaching points 3, preferably of softer rubber than the sheet 1, or of other suitable material which under the influence of the heat will adhere to the fabric of the trousers.
The sheet 1 continuous throughout its length is provided with a thickened V shaped central portion 4 designed to lie directly beneath the crease in the trousers leg to withstand the tendency to flatten into a plane when pressure is applied by the knee. The outer edge of the portion 4: is provided with a plurality of spines or teeth 5. The function of these spines is to extend into and outline the crease of the trousers when pressure by the knee of the wearer stretches the fabric and presses the V shaped portion into a plane surface. The spines 5 being solid are not compressed and operated to outline and retain the crease in the trousers. The sheet 1 is applied to the inner side of the trousers leg A, so that the V shaped portion 4 lies directly beneath the crease B, so that the spines 5 extend into the crease. Enlarged portion 2 is disposed so as to lie about one inch below the position of the knee-cap of the wearer when in a standing position.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A trousers creasing device comprising a sheet of flexible material, having a plurality of spines arranged on one face thereof.
2. A trousers crease retaining device comprising a sheet of flexible resilient material, provided with acentral V shaped portion having spines on its apex.
3. A trousers crease retaining device comprising a sheet of flexible resilient material having a thickened V shaped central portion terminating in spines and provided with attaching points on one side.
, In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
HUGO ARTHUR NEUMANN.
Witnesses G. C. COUSINS, P. HARNEY.
