Description
dnitml gime @anni @Milling Letters Patent No. 94,070, dated August 24, 1869.-
IlWPROVED TRACE-BUCKLE. A
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part o! the same.
To all-whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J. H. H. BUELL, of Oriskany, in the county of Oneida, and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trace-Buckles; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to .the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specilication.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a trace-buckle, and in the arrangement" ofthe devices hereafter set forth and described.
Figure l isl a plan view of my invention.
Figure 2 is a section lview of the same'.
Figure 3 is a perspective of the wedge v Letter A represents the box or frame of' the buckle, which is constructed of malleable iron, or any suitable material, the ends of which project to sonic distance beyond the box, and are curved in opposite directions.
Upon each side of the frame there are two loops B, formed, one for the thill-st-rap, and the other for bellyband. Y
Heretofore it-has heen customary to have but a single one of these loops, in'whicll both of thev straps are fastened at the same time, frequently causing considerable inconvenience.
By having a separate loop for each strap, they can he fastened much more readily and easily, and'without the trouble of having to loosen both in order to unbucklc one.
After the. trace has been passed through the box A, the wedge C is placed upon its top, inside of the box, so as to secure it in place. Y Y Y This wedgeconslsts of an elongated flat plate, having a projection extending across its front end, so as to prevent it from being drawn inside of the box, and
a smaller one, e, across its surface, near the middle, while there is a rod-like projection, g, extending ,downward from its bottom, which passes through the strap, and catches against the bottom of the frame, as seen' is an inclined `plane, o, extendingr from end to end,
against which -the flange e bears, so as to depress the rear end of the wedge,.and make the opening through the box smaller at the rear end than the front one, so as vto hold the trace more securely.
1n t'he top of the box there is a small groove formed, shown by dotted lines in iig. 2, iu which the projection a slides,'there being a vsmall stop formed at the front end ot' the groove,l so as to prevent the wedgefrom coming out of the box too easily.
The rear end of the top'of the frame is curved downward, against which the projection a bears, soI as to force the end of' the wedge downward against the trace.
Having thus described my invention,
lVhat I claim', and desire to secure by Letters Paient isi. The wedge C, having the two flanges formed on its top, as described, and provided with Vthe two projections a and y, substantially as shown.`
2. The frame A, provided with the loops B and inclined planes o, in combination with the wedge C,
when used to, form a trace-buckle, substantially as' specified.
.ln-testimony that I claim the, foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this QSthday of June, 1869.
. J.. H. H. BUELL. Witnesses:
W. C. HALLECK, Hl C. BUnLL.
