KEY-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed May 7, 1909. Serial N 0. 494,609.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. LOVE- LAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Key-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following tobe a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to devices for preventing the removal of door-keys from their looks; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of a door-lock provided with a key-fastener according to this invention. Fig. 2 is a cross section through the key fastener, taken on the line m-w in Fig. 1.
A is a portion of a door provided with a lock B of any approved construction.
C is the door-knob, and D is the eye or handle-portion of the key which is shown inserted in the key-hole d of the lock.
E is a guide having side flanges e in which a locking-plate F is free to slide longitudinally. The guide E has a long slot 9 which is slipped over the small part of the door-knob before the plate F is placed in posit-ion.
H is a short chain or other flexible connection secured to the upper end portion of the guide and connected to one of the screws h which fasten the lock to the door. The locking-plate F has also a slot f in its upper part which permits it to be slid upward so as to straddle the small part of the door-knob, and it has a locking-tongue 2' at its lower end for engaging with the eye D of the key when the key is in the lock and turned cross-wise of the key-hole.
J is a short chain or other flexible connection provided with a ring j at one end for engaging with the shank of the door-key. The other end of the chain J has a stoplink is which is inserted in a hole a in the lower part of the guide E so that the locking-plate cannot he slid out of engagement with the guide.
What I claim is:
1. The combination, with a lock provided with a door-knob and a key, of a guide provided with a slot which engages with the door-knob, and a locking-plate slidable in the said guide and having a slot in its upper end for engaging with the door-knob and having also a tongue at its lower part for engaging with the eye of the key.
2. The combination, with a lock provided with a door-knob and a key, of a guide provided with a slot which engages with the door-knob, a locking-plate slidable in the said guide and having a slot in its upper end for engaging with the door-knob and having also a tongue at its lower part for engaging with the eye of the key, a stop- -link engaging with a hole in the guide below the locking-plate, and a chain connected to the said link and having a ring for engaging with the shank of the key.
