A. H. PLUMER.
DISPLAY BIN.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 5, 1909.
Patented Nov. 9, 1909.
tl 1T v ALFRED I-I. PLUMEBI, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
DISPLAY-BIN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 9, 1909.
Application filed April 5, 1909. Serial 110.488,07?.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED I-I. PLUMER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display- JFins, of which the following is a specificaion.
My invention relates to improvements in display bins and has for its object to provide a display bin for use in display in the sale of cereals and the like, wherein the contents of the bin are displayed through a transparent window and are discharged into an outwardly projecting receptacle, as required for i the purpose of sale.
In the drawings-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse view of the same in mid-section. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the extension bin, the main body of the bin being shown broken away.
As shown in the drawings, I provide a rectangular housing 4 having at its top the cover 5 hinged at the point indicated by the numeral 6; the front wall of the receptacle being provided with the transparent window 7. At this point the receptacle 4 is provided with the inclined bottom 8 concaved from side to side. At the lower front portion of the receptacle 4I provide a transverse extension bin 9 having the concave bottom 10, which bottom 10 is concaved from side to side (see Figs. 2 and 3). The eXtension bin 9 is provided with the cover 11 hinged at the point indicated by the numeral 12, and on the inner side of each of its side walls 13 the extension bin 9 is provided with inwardly projecting flanges 14, whose function is to permit the use of a scoop, for the extraction of the contents of the extension bin 9, obviating the necessity of the operator holding his hand at the top of said side walls 13 to prevent the superfluous cereal or other merchandise from displacement over said side walls 13. As the contents of the extension bin 9 are removed, they are replenished by the descent of the remainder of the contents of the bin held in the main receptacle 4.
The extension bin 9 is provided with a front-wall-member 15, slidably mounted between the side walls 13, so that it may be lifted vertically or entirely removed from the front of the extension bin 9, to enable the contents to be removed (when at too low a level to be removed from the top of the extension bin 9 by means of a scoop), or to facilitate the cleansing of the interior of the device, said member 15 having a tongue 16 engaging with a groove 17 on the inner face of each of the side walls 13.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to have secured to me by the grant of Letters Patent, is:
1. A display bin comprising a main body section provided with a transparent window in its front wall; a hinged cover mounted upon said main body section; an extension bin mounted at the front of the main body section and communicating with the interior of the said main body section, the said extension bin being provided with front and side walls, said side walls being provided with inwardly projecting flanges at their tops, and said extension bin having a bottom which is concaved from front to back and from end to end, substantially as described.
2. A display bin comprising a main body section provided with a transparent window in its front wall; a hinged cover mounted upon said main body section; an extension bin mounted at the front of the main body section and communicating with the interior of the said main body section, the 'said eX- tension bin being provided with front and side walls, said side walls being provided with inwardly projecting flanges at their tops, said extension bin having a bottom which is concaved from front to back and from end to end, and having a vertically and removably mounted front wall, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALFRED H. PLUMER.
