SHOWCASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 15, 1921.
Application led March 31, 1920. Serial No. 370,154.
To all whom t may concern n Be it Vknown that l, Fnnnniuon wiener M innrson, a subject of the King of Grreatl Britain, and a resident or" the city ci Victoria, in the .province or British Columbia, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Showcases, oi which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements 1n showcases, and the object of my invention is to provide 'a device capable of being used with O'reat 'facility and convenience tor displaying and dispensing such articles as packets or" cigarettes, chewing gum, and the like, which is simple and inexpensive to manufacture, and which is novel and highly attractive.
l attain this object by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a face view of the showcase.
Fig. 2 is an end view in cross section.
Fig. 3 is a sectional plan View taken on the line 2 2 of F ig. 1.
Fig. Ll is a. plan view of the inner case.
Fig. 5 is a face view with the `iront removed.
lT ig. 5 is a perspective view of a drawer.
.Similar ligures or" reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views.
' The showcase consists oi an outer casing 1 having end walls 2 and 3, bottom 1l, and the front and rear upper and lower longitudinal pieces 4 5 and 6 7 respectively er;` tending between the end walls, the lower pieces 5 1 being spaced 'trom the bottom 4 to provide drawer space, as hereinafter mentioned. Glass fronts 8 and 9 are itted between the pieces 1 5 and 6 7, as shown, te enable the contents oit the case to be seen, and top of the case is closed by a suitably hinged cover 10. Fitted into the casing 1 is an inner casing or boX 11 consisting of the two sides 12 and 13 which extend between the walls 2 and 3 of the outer casing parallel to the front and rear sides thereof, and a bottom 14, which is in alinement with the lower edges of the pieces 5 and 7 so as not to interfere with the working of the drawers, as hereinafter described. The walls 12 and 13 are spaced Jfrom the front and rear sides of the outer casing so that longitudinal spaces are formed therebetween, and these spaces are sub-divided into sections or compartments 15, in which the articles are carried, by means of vertical partitions 16 extending laterally from the walls 12 and 13 on each side. Thus it will be seen that a series of vertical compartments, l5, are provided on each side of the case, glass covered, underneath each of which compartments extends transversely of the case a drawer compartment, indicated by the numeral 17, in each of which compartments is tted from each end drawers 13, that is to say, there is a. series of drawers 18 on each side ot the case, each of which has a cutout portion 19 adapted to register with its respective section or compartment 15 when closed and a tapered portion 20 extending under the bottom 14 of the inner casing 11, as shown in Fig. 2.
rihe utility and convenience of the device will be readily apparent, as it will be obvious that articles placed in the respective compartments 15 are readily seen and may be withdrawn singly when required by pulling out the drawer of the particular compartment, as the article then lies in the cut-out portion 19 while the tapered portion 20 then extends under the compartment to hold up the remaining articles, the lowermost one or which drops into the cut-out portion 19 when the drawer is returned to place.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have devised a simple, compact, and novel showcase which is et great utility and convenience.
lVhat I claim as my invention is A showcase comprising an outer casing having longitudinally extending slots provided in the side walls thereof immediately above the bottom wall, an inner box like casing contained within the outer casing and supported with the bottom wall thereof flush with the upper edges oi said slots, said inner casing having the side walls thereof extending in spaced parallelism with the side walls of the outer casing and provided with outwardly extending partition members dividing the space between the two casings into two oppositely arranged series of vertical article displaying compartments, said casing forming a receptacle for articles designed to refill the said compartments as they are emptied, and drawers supported in oppositcly facing series on the bottom wall of said outer casing, said drawers being arranged beneath said compartments and operating through the slots in the sides of the outer casing.
