ANGLE-COCK HOLDER FOR RAILWAY-CARS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 9, 1909.
Application filed August 16, 1909. Serial No. 518,036.
To :all whom it may concern Bejit' known that; I, LOUIS A. Honim', a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the State f Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Angle- Cock Holder for Railway-Oars, of which the following is such a full, clear, and exact description as will enable any one skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of thisspecification.
. My invention relates 'to an angle cock holder for railway trains, and particularly to a holder adapted to surround the head of the angle cockLand'preVent its rotation or 'forcible removal from the train pipe.
4 The. object .-of my invention is to provide a holder of the class above referred to which will be simple in construction and efiective in operatlon and which can be readily applied to the angle cock and may be used in connection with an angle cock having an automatically locking handle.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate one form of angle cock holder made accordance with my invention, ure 1 is a. longitudinai View. Fig. 2 is a top View, showing the angle cock in posi tion. Fig. 3 is a front view of a portion of a car to which my invention is applied. Fig. 4: is a section on the line 4t Fig. 1.
Like marks of reference refer to similar parts in the several views of the drawings.
5 represents the body of the angle cock. This body 5 is provided with the usual hexagonal head 6 and nozzle'Z. The stem 8 of the angle cock carries on its upper end a casting 9, having a rearwardly extending lug10, to which are pivoted by a pin 11 lugs 12 carried at the rearward end of the handle 13. The forward end of castin 9 is provided with a vertical post 14 which acts as a guide for thehandle 13, and the latter end of which also serves asa stop to limit the movement of the stem 8 by coming in contact with projections 17 and 15 on the upper end of the body of the angle cock. Thcseprojections 17 and 15 are also adapted to make contact with locking lugs 16 carried in the handle 13, so that the handle cannot be turned until it is lifted upwardly and the angle cock is thus automatically locked.
The holder which is adapted to engage with the hexagonal head 6 of the cock consists of two parts. One part 18 surrounds 4 sides of the hexagonal head and is provided with bifurcated lugs 19 and 20, the former being preferably slightly hook shaped, as shown in Fig. 1. Thepart 18 is also pro vided with an extension 21, by means of which it may be secured to the car 22 by bolts or rivets28. The part 18 is also providcd with, a flange 24 for preventing the forward movement of the hexagonal head 6. The remaining part 25 of theholder has a T shaped end 26, which engages with the bifurcated lug 19, and at the opposite end the member is threaded to receive a nut 27, which engages with the lug 20. The part 25 is provided with a flange 28 to prevent the forward movement of the hexagonal head 6, and it may also be provided with a fiance 29 to preventthe rearward movement of the head. This latterfiange, however, is of little importance as the angle cock is seldom subjected to pressure, a pulling strain being practically the only one ever transmitted to it; The portion 30 of the part 25, which: is adjacent to the T shaped end 26, is reduced in width and is curved rearwardly. as is clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, so
as to allow a way for the passage of the lugs While my holder is simple in construction,
it is very durable and not likely to get out of order. Furthermore, it maybe used in connection with an angle cock having a sel locking handle.
Having fully described my. invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. The combination. with an automatically locking angle cock, of a holder surrounding the head and provided with a way for the paslsage of the rear end of'the handle of the coc r.
2. The combination with an automatically locking angle cock, of a holder composed of two parts, ada ted to be secured together around the heat, one of said parts having a reduced portion, formin a way for the passage of the rear end of t e operating handle of the cock.
- of the cock.
3. The combination with an angle cock, of aholder for said cock, comprising two )arts, adapted to surround the head, one 0 said parts being provided with a pair of bifurcated lugs, and the other part having one end T shaped to engage one of said lugs, and the other end threaded and provided with a nut to engage the other of said lugs.
4. The combination with an automatically locking angle cock, of a holder for said cock, comprising two parts, to surround the head,
one of said parts being provided with a pair of bifurcated lugs, and the other part having one end T shaped to engage one of said lugs, and the other end threaded and provided with a nut to engage the other of said lugs, said latter part having a reduced portion, forming a way for the passage of the handle 5, T 1e combination with an automatically locking angle cock, of a holder for said cock, comprising two parts adapted to surround the head, one of said parts being provided with a pair of bifurcated lugs, and the other part having one end T shaped to engage one of said lugs, and the other end threaded and provided with a nut to engage the other oi said lugs, said latter part having a reduced portion adjacent to the T shaped end, forming a way for the passage of the handle of the cock.
In testimony whereof, T. have hereunto set my hand and aflixed my seal in the presence of the two subscribing witnesses.
