the latter may be drawn together .so as to admit of the crown of the hat being placed 7 thereover, after which pressure upon the finger or'hand piece isreleased, thereby permit-ting the jaws to spring outwardly into clasping engagement with the hat crown with the result of holding the hat firmly in the desired display position.

The offstanding post 6 of the bracket member may be either vertically arranged or disposed at any other desired angle according to the angle at which it may be in- I tended to display the hat, and in order to 15 give the preferred inclination to the crown engaging clasp 7, it is only necessary to deflect the outer end portion of the hanger arm 5 either up or down as indicated at the point 10 on the hat hanger shown in the lower part of Fig. 1 of the drawings. The main outstanding hanger arm' 5 ot the bracket" niember t also includes in its construction an inclined bracing leg 11 having a connection 12 at its upper end with an intermediate part of the hanger arm 5 and whose lower end is readily united to or formed with a lower slide clasp 13 which may be conveniently formed by bending the 'wire into an approximate C-shape to produce the oppositely arranged inturnedclasping hooks or clamps 14 which frictionally and slidably embrace the opposite holding ribs 3 of the supporting element. An upper slide clasp 15, similar to the lower slide clasp is provided at the inner end of the hanger a'rnr'5 and also includes opposite inturned spring claspinghooks 0r clamps 16 which 'frictionally and slidably embrace the holding ribs 3.

The upper and lower sets of clasping hooks or clamps 16 and 14 are preferably braced and connected by intermediate brace spring bars 17 lying in the retaining grooves 2 of the supporting element, thus providing a very rigid and firm structure which admits of the individual hat hangers being slid up and down on the supporting element to any desired position, and held in the latter through the frictional engagement of the slide 'clasps with the holding ribs 3. As suggested in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, the individual hat hangers'may be conveniently formed oftwo lengths of wire each of which isbentto form one half of. the hanger as above described,and is an exact duplicate of'the other half,-the two lengths of wire bemg banded, soldered, or otherwise rigidly united at fastening points 18. However, the entire hat hanger may be formed of a single length of wire, as suggested in Fig.

' 3 of the drawings,'and the latter figure of v the drawings also illustrates another embodiment of the invention,viz: that of having the supporting element 1 arranged horizontally and hence necessitating arranging the upper and lower slide clasps of the bracket member horizontally instead of vertically. In this adaptation of the invention, it will be observed by reference to Fig. 3

of the drawings that the hanger arm 5 is formed at its inner end with a horizontal slide clasp 15 embodying the inturned clasping hooks or clamps 16 slidably embracing the holding ribs of the supporting element, while the bracin le 11 is ikewise formed with a lower sli e clasp 13 having the inturned spring clasping hooks or clamps 14,

' and the latter connected with the corresponding upper hooks or clamps 16 by intermediate brace bars 17, thelatter, however, lying on the outside of the face of the su porting element and disposed vertically. In other respects, the essential features shown in Fig. 3 are the same as the construction illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2.

.From' the foregoing it will be understood that various changes in the form, proport1on, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the 2. :In a hat holder of the class described,
