Description

FOOT REST APPLICATION FILED JAILZO, 1909.
W i wil- 1 I I. J .m "M S 6., E M Ah M k FE w 5 f M 9 MWQQ To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY S. PHILLIPS, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Burlington, county of Burlington, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain Improvements in Foot-Rests, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved foot-rest adapted for connection with porch fences or railings and like structures. Its leading object is to provide a simple construction that is readily connected and adjusted to various elevations and angles.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved foot-rest applied to a fence section; Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof; and Fig. 3 is an inverted sectional View along the line 33 of Fig. 1.
The drawings represent a fence section comprising the rails l and 2 which hold the rods 3, to which my improved rest is adapted to be applied. The rest comprises the straps 4; which pass over the top rail 1 and have the cross-bars 5 engaging the rods 3, the body 6 having thereon the brackets 7 for engaging the straps, the strut 8 having the cross bar 9 for engaging the rods, and the strut 1O angularly disposed with relation to the strut 8 and having the cross bar 11 for engaging the rods.
the respective ends of the body, are provided with the respective fingers 7 pivotally connected thereto by the pintles 7 b and drawn thereto by the set screw 7, each bracket being thus provided with a clamp for engaging and disengaging it with reference to the corresponding strap. The strut 8, extending transversely to the body from the under s1de thereof, is provided with the slot 8 which is engaged by the set screw 8* fixed to the under side of the body, by means of which the strut is made adjustable. The strut is formed in two sections containing the slots 10 through which pass a set bolt 10 by means of which the length of this strut is adjustable. A bracket 12 on the body has a pintle 12 on which the strut 10 is fixed by a nut 12", the angle of the strut being adjustable by loosening the nut. To hold the strut in the desired position, jaws The brackets 7, extending laterally from I Specification of Letters Patent.

12 thereon and on the bracket engage and are fixed together by tightening the nut.
The elevation, angle, and distance from the support, of the body, may be varied at will by means of the adjustable connections of the brackets with the straps and of the struts with the body, hence the convenience of the user is readily accomplished.
The character of the parts is such that they can be brought together in compact relation convenient for handling and can be moved with equal readiness into operative position.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A rest comprising a body, means comprising a strap having an engaging member for suspending said body, and angularly arranged struts having bearing members disposed at different elevations for coacting with said strap to support said body, said members being adapted for supporting said body by engagement with a vertical object.
2. A rest comprising a body, straps connected respectively to'median sections of the ends of said body for suspending it, and a pair of struts angularly disposed with relation to each other and connected with said body for supporting it.
3. A rest comprising a body, clamps on said body, flexible straps engaged by said clamps to suspend said body, and a pair of struts angularly disposed with relation to each other for supporting said body.
4. A rest comprising a body, clamps on said body, a pair of straps engaged by said clamps, a cross bar on each of said straps for engaging a supporting device, a strut connected with said body, a cross bar on said strut for engaging a supporting device, a second strut connected with said body, and a cross bar on said second strut for engaging a supporting device.
5. A rest comprising a body, brackets fixed to and projecting beyond the ends of said body, flexible straps engaged to said brackets, a longitudinally movable strut engaged to and extending laterally from said body, and a strut of adjustable length hinged to said body and extending angularly to said strut first named.
6. A rest, in combination with a fence, In Witness whereof Ihave hereunto set my said rest comprising a body, straps connectname this 16th day of January, A.
