Application filed February 23, 1909. Serial No. 479,576.
To dZZ w hm it may concern:.
Be it known that I, A GUST NnUsUs, citi-- zen of the United States, residing at Winslow,
in the county of Stephenson and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Railway-Rail Supports, of which the followingis a -specification.
My invention relates to railway rail supports, and particularly contemplates the provision of parallel rail supporting sills having adjustable spacing and reinforcing menibers engaging through portions thereof, which members and said portions are molded with cement therearound to form the rail ties, said sills having throughportions by which the rails are secured thereto, and the object thereof is to provide a simple and inexpensive construction which will be strong and durable in its practical use.
Further objects and advantages of my present invention will appear in the course of the following description, in which reference is made to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which like. numerals are used to designate like parts throughout the several figures, and in which,;
Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of the skeleton metallic frame. Fig. .2 is atop plan view of the complete construction and illustrating the rails secured thereto. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional View thereof on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the supporting sills, showing the ends of the reinforcing members connected thereto. I
In the practical embodiment of my invention, I provide a rail support comprising spaced'supporting sills 1, held in parallel relation and in the correct position by spac= ing reinforcing bolts 2, the sills 1 compris ing flat metal plates 8 transversely slit for a short distance from their longitudinal edges to provide central flanges l upturned to receive the rails a, and end flanges o downturned and apertured to receive the ends 6 of the reinforcing bolts 2, said ends being adapted to be bent toward one another to bear against the external surfaces of the outer downturned flanges 5 and with slots to receive taper pins 7 to bear against the external surfaces of the inner downturned flanges 5, thus locking the reinforcing rods at' both sides of the sills 1.- The up-' turned central flanges 4 are also provided with apertures 8 for the reception of bolts 9 having beveled enlargements 10 for engagement within openings in the web of the rail a, thereby securely holding said rail in place when the said bolts 9 are drawn tight by means 'of nuts 11 bearing against one of said flanges 4. g
-The downturned flanges 5 of the supporting sills 1, and their reinforcing spacing bolts 2, are entirely embedded Within cement or concrete molded therearound to form elongated rectangular ties 12, the upper surfaces of which are level with the upper surface of the'plate 3 of the said sills 1. It will thus be understood that each spaced pairof sills l, are sectional portions of the entire railway supports, the next adjacent sills being placed at a distance therefrom equal to the distance between the ties 12 thereof.
Having fully described my invention, I claim:
1. In a rail support of the character described, the combination of spaced metallic sills having upturned portions forming a rail chair, and downturned portions, reinforcing bolts connecting said downturned portions, and ties formed of a cementitious material and molded about said downturned portions and said reinforcing bolts, substantially as described.
2. In a rail support of the character described, the combination of spaced supporting sills having upturned portions for the reception of the rails, and downturned portions, means for securing the rails within said upturned portions,- reinforcing bolts connecting said downturned portions and extending between said sills, and ties formedof a cementitious material molded about said downturned portions and said reinforcing bolts, substantially as described.
3. In a rail support ofthe character described, the combination of spaced metallic supporting sills having 11 turned portions,-
means for securing the rai s within said upjacent the' inner surfaces of said si ls, Where-' turned portions, reinforcing bolts extending 'forcin bolts th ioughout their length, subbetween said sills'and provided with angu-' stanftisy y as desoribe'd. x larly bent ends upon the outer surfaces of In testimony whereof fiix xiii signature said sills, and with wedge-rece'ivin slots ad in presence two witnesses v AUGUST NEUSUSQ. by to rigidly hold the latter, ties formed of a .Witnesses: I cementitious material and moldedabout said C. O. 'TYLERZ" downturned portions and about said rein- W; TYLE/R.
