To all'whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM H. Losn, a resident of Zelienople, in the county of Butler and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Legs for Bath-Tubs, and do hereby declare the following to be a' full, clear, and exact description thereof.

My invention relates to legs for bath-tubs and has special reference to a fastening for the attachment and securing of the leg to the tub.

The object of my invention is to provide a cheap, simple and efficient means for the connecting of the leg to the tub, whereby such leg can be easily and quickly attached as well as such a means which will rigidly and firmly hold the leg in place when in position, and will not be liable to permit the leg to turn, swing, move or become detached when duly set or connected to the tub.

My invention consists, generally stated, in the novel arrangement, construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter more specifically set forth and described and particularly pointed out in the claims. 7

To enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to construct and use my improved leg for bath-tubs, I will describe the same more fully,referring to the accompanying drawing, in which-- Figure 1 is a vertical section of a bath-tub leg and a portion of the tub with my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is an inner face view of the leg, partly in section, and showing a portion of the tub in section. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line 3-3 Fig. 1 and looking in the direction of the arrow.

Like symbols of reference herein indicate like parts in each of the figures of the drawing.

As illustrated in the drawing, 1 represents a portion of the ordinary form of a bathtub, and 2 the bottom of he same having the usual curved portion 3 extending outwardly therefrom. Projecting down from the under face of the bottom 2 and integral therewith is a cored lug or hanger 4, which is provided with the central body portion 5 below said bottom and connected thereto by the side portions 6, and with the curved or rounded outer end portion 5 extending be yond said side portions. Projecting below tub and in its proper the under face of the body portion 5 and in line with the side portions6 are the lugs or bearing portions 7 and within said body portion is a nut 8 which is located centrally of the same and secured therein in any suitable manner.

- The leg 9 is of the usual shape and has a shelf or tongue plate 10 formed integral therewith and projecting out from the inner face of the same. This plate 10 is provided with a recessed or socket portion 11 in the upper face of the same and with a hole 12 extending through the same at such recessed or socket portion and through the body 10 of said plate. The free or outer portion of the plate 10 in forming the outer end wall for the recessed or socket portion 11 is cutaway centrally of said plate, as at 13 to form the members or stops 18 on each side of such plate, which project inwardly from the side walls of said recessed or socket portion on the body 10 and permits the curved outer end portion 5 on the hanger to extend between said stops.

When the leg 9 is to be attached to the tub I the hanger 4 on the bottom 2 of said tub is placed within the recessed or socket portion 11 in the plate 10 on said leg, and a tap bolt 1a is then inserted through the hole 12 in said plate so that its threaded portion 15 can engage with the nut 8 in said hanger. When screwed to placelthe head 16 on the nut 8 can bear against the under face of the plate 10 and the upper end 9 on the leg 9 will bear against the curved portion 3 on the tub'l, while the hanger 4 will be seated within the recessed or socket portion 11 in said plate by its lug portions 7 bearing against the body 10 of-such plate and the side portions 6 and lug portions 7 bearing against the stops 13 at the outer end of said plate. It will thus be seen that my improved leg for bath-tubs provides for a means of attaching the same to the tub that is composed of few and simple parts and will enable the easy and convenient assembling of these parts together for securing the leg in position. The manner of securing the leg to the tub will enable such leg to be held in position at all times, so that the upper end of the leg will be held and bear against the position, even though the tap-bolt may be dispensed with or become loosened or separated from its engaging parts, by the hanger on the tub being seated in the socket in the plate and engag ing with the stop or abutment-s on the outer portion of the leg plate, while the inner end wall of the socket in such plate will also engage with such hanger and stop any move ment of the hanger away from such abutments. Sufficient side movement between the side walls of the seat is also permitted for the hanger in case of such loosening or separation of the parts and for the proper positioning of the parts for the engagement of the tap-bolt with the hanger.

The attaching parts are strong and durable, are easily cast on the. tub and leg and the leg can be readily and quickly detached from the tub at any time and when desired for any purpose. The device will not be liable to get out of order or permit the leg to become separated from the tub by the loosening or removal of the tap-bolt and will form a rigid and strong connection at all times.

It will be obvious that my improved fastening can be used with vessels or other articles than bath-tubs, such as sinks, washstands, etc., and various other modifications and changes in the design and use of the same may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A fastener for the legs of bath-tubs comprising a hanger on the tub, a leg having its upper end engaging with a curved portion on said tub, a tongue-plate on said leg having a portion in which the body of said hanger is located, and a member at the free end of said plate extending upwardly and cooperating with said hanger.

2. A fastener for the legs of bath-tubs, comprising a hanger on the tub, a leg having its upper end engaging with a curved portion on said tub, a tongue-plate on said leg having a portio in which the body of said hanger is located, a member at the free end of said plate extending upwardly and cooperating with said hanger, and means for connecting said hanger and plate together.

3. A fastener for the legs of bath-tubs comprising a hanger on the tub, a leg having its upper end engaging with a curved portion on said tub, a tongue-plate on said leg provided with a portion therein in which the body of said hanger is located, a member at the free end of said plate extending upwardly and cooperating with said hanger,

and a tap-bolt passing through said plate and engaging with said hanger for connecting the same together. r

4. A fastener for the legs of bathetubs comprisinga hanger on the tub, a leg having its upper end engaging with a curved portion on said tub, a tongue-plate on said leg having a portion in which the body of said hanger is located, and integral stops at the free end of said plate extending upwardly and cooperating with said hanger; I r

A fastener for the legs of bath-tubs comprising a hanger on the tub, aleg having its upper end engaging with 'a curved portion on said tub, a tongue-plate on said leg having a portion in which the body of said hanger is located, and stops at the free end of said plate formed by the wall of said last named portion and extending upwardly and cooperating with said hanger.

A fastener for the legs of bath-tubs I comprising a hanger on the tub, a leg having its upper end engaging with a curved portion on said tub, a tongue-plate on said leg having a portion in which the body of said hanger is located, and stops at the free end of said plate and formed by cut-away portions on the wall of said last named portion, said stops extending upwardlyjand 00 operating with said hanger. v7

7. A fastener for the legs of bath-tubs comprising a hanger on the tub, a leg hav ing its upper end engaging with a curved portion on said tub, a tongue-plate on said leg having a portion in which the body of said hanger is located, a member at the free end of said plate extending upwardly and cooperating with said hanger, and bearing portions on said hanger for engaging with the bottom of said last named portion.
