Y wrrNzssrEs lNvl-:N'ron TNI MORRIS PITIRS C0., WASHINGTON. D. C4 A ITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. LOSE, OF ZELIENOPLE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO IRON CITY SANITARY MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF PITTSBURC, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION OI" PENN- SYLVANIA.
LEG FOR BATH-TUBS.
To all whom it may concern.' l
Be it known that I, WILLIAM II. Losn, a resident of Zelienople, in the county of Butler and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Legs for Bath-Tubs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to legs for bath-tubs, and has special reference to a fastening for the attachment and securing of such leg to the tub.
The object of the invention is to provide a cheap, simple and efficient means for the attaehing of the leg to the tub, whereby such leg can be easily and quickly secured in position and will be held rigidly and firmly in place and will not be liable to turn, swing or move when duly set or connected to the tub.
My invention consists, generally stated, in the novel arrangement, construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter more specifically set forth and described and particularly ointed out in the claims.
To ena le others skilled in the art to which my invention a pertains to construct and use my improve leg for bath-tubs, I will describe the same more fully, referring to the accompanying drawing, in which:-
Figure 1 is a vertical section of a bath-tub leg and a portion of the tub showing my invention applied thereto. Eig. 2 is an inner face View of such leg and with a portion of the tub in section. Fig. 3 is a vertical crosssection on the line 3-3 Fig. 1 and looking in the direction of the arrow. F ig. 4 is view similar toV Fig. 1 showing another position of the connection.
Like symbols of reference herein indicate like parts in each of the figures of the drawi(IAS illustrated in the drawing, 1 represents the tub, and 2, the bottom of the same having the L-shaped luOs Sforrned integral therewith and projecting down from the under surface thereof. These lugs 3 are so arranged that they form by their body portions 4.- and their flange portions 5, the seat 6 between the pertions 4 and the slot 7 between the flanges 5.
The leg 8 is of the usual shape and has a tongue or arm 9 formed integral therewith and projecting out from the inner face of the same, such arm being formed of channel shape to provide for the flanges 10 thereon, while a Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 17, 1908.
Patented April 13, 1909.
semi No. 421,606.
When the leg 8 is to be attached to the tub l, the arm 9 on said leg has a bolt 12 fitting within the hole 11 in the body 9 thereof, and the head 13 on said bolt is above the upper face of said body, so that said head can be .passed into the seat 6 between the lugs 3 at the outer end of the saine and the bolt within the slot 7 between the flanges 5 of said lugs. A washer 14 is placed around the bolt 12 and a nut 15 engages with the threaded end on said bolt, so that when said nut is screwed up to place, said washer will come against the under face of body 9 of the arm 9 and the upper face on said body will fit against the flanges 5 on the lugs 3, with the flanges 10 on said body fitting around and against the outer faces on the body portions 4 of said lugs.
In order to provide for the proper adjustnient of the leg 8 with the tub 1, a serrated face 16 formed of inclined teeth is formed on the under face of the flanges 5 on the lugs 3 and a like face is formed on the upper face of the body 9/ of the tongue 9, so that these two faces 16 can engage within each other and provide for the proper height of said tub through the upper edge 8 en said leg engaging with the curved outer portlon l on the tub and being adapted to slide along the saine. This adjustment being obtained as the upper end S slides down the curved face 1l of tub 1 during the longitudinal movement of lug t), as shown in Fig. 4, which causes the inclinedfaces of the serrations 16 to ride upon each other, by reason of the teeth forming such serrations being sulliciently deep for the purpose, thus aiding in the adjustment and tending to retain the upright or practically vertical position of the leg S.
It will thus be seen that niy improved leg for bath-tubs provides for an attaching means for the saine to the tub which is coniposed of few and simple parts and they can be easily and conveniently assembled in position for securing such leg in position. The securing parts for the leg will enable such leg to be held in position at all times, so that it cannot be turned out of place or position, will overcome any side movement, and will not be liable to have its parts beeoine lost or separated. The attaching parts are strong and durable, are easily cast on the tub and leg, and such leg can readily be de- Yso taehed iroin the tuh When desired for any purpose. The device will also permit the adjustment of the leg so that the height of the tub ean he had When desired and it Will not be liable to get out of order.
Vvlhat l olaini as iny invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is z"d l. A bath-tub-leg fastener Comprising lugs on the tub for forming seat, a leg having a tongue thereon, said leg having its upper end engaging with a curved portion on the tuh, ineans engaging with said lugs. and tongue for securing the saine in place, and a toothed connection for adjusting the height oi the tub in oonjgunotion with the upper end oi said leg sliding on the curved portion on said tub.
A bathtub-leg fastener comprising lugs on the tulo for iorining a seat, a leg having a tongue thereon, said leg having its upper end engaging with a Curved portion on the tub, ineans engaging with said lugs and tongue for securing the saine in place, and toothed faces on said lugs and tongue for engaging with each other to adjust the height of the tub in conjunction vv-Iith the upper end oi said leg sliding on the Curved portion on said tub.
3. A bath-tuh-ieg 'fastener Comprising lugs on the tuh ior iorining a seat, a leg having a tongue thereon, said leg having its upper end engaging with a curved portion on the tub, ineans engaging with said lugs and tongue for securing the saine in plaoe, and toothed faces on the under 'faces of said lugs and upper face of said tongue 'for engaging with each other to adjust the height ot the tub in oonjunotion with the upper end of said leg sliding on the Curved portion on said tub.
Ll. A bath-tuh-leg fastener ooinprising a pair of L-shaped lugs secured on the tub for lorrning a seat and a slot between the saine, a leg having a ohannel-shape tongue for engaging With said lugs, said leg having its upper end engaging With a curved portion on said tub, a toothed Connection for adjusting the height oi the tub in conjunction with the upper end of said leg sliding on the curved portion of said tub, a bolt passing through said tongue and slot and having its head ritting Within said seat, and a nut engaging with said bolt.
5. A bath-tub-leg fastener comprising a pair of L-shaped lugs formed integral With the tulo 't'or iiorniing a seat and a slot between the saine, a leg having a channel-shaped tongue for engaging with said lugs, said leg having its upper end engaging with a curved portion on said tub, a toothed Connection for adjusting the height oi the tub in conjunction with the upper end oi said leg sliding on the curved portion of said tub, a bolt passing through said tongue and slot and having its head iitting Within said seat, and a nut engaging with said holt.
6. A hath-tub-leg fastener comprising a pair of L-shaped lugs formed integral with the tub for iorrning a seat and a slotvhetween the saine, a leg having a channel-shaped tongue for engaging with said lugs, said leg having its upper end engaging With a ourved portion on said tub, a toothed connection for adjusting the height of the tub in conjunction with the upper end oi said leg sliding on the Curved portion of said tub, a bolt passing through a hole in said tongue and through said slot and having its head Afitting with said seat, and a nut engaging with said bolt.
ln testimony whereof, l, the said VViLLIAM H. LOSE, have hereunto set my hand.
NILLIAM H. LOSE.
