CURTAINLESS SHOWER-BATH.
Specification of Letters Patent. 4 Patented B13 2, 1915 Application filed August 20, 1913. 7 Serial No. 785,631.,
Be it known that 1, ANDREW E. KENNEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of North Plainfield, in the countyzof Somerset and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtainless Shower-Baths, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has reference to a curtainless shower bath and is an improvement on the device shown in Patent No. 1,054,922 of March 4:, 1913, and has for its object the production of means for more firmly securing the upright tube, carrying the sprinkler head, in position on the faucet of the ordinary bath tub.
Accordingly the invention consists in the features of construction hereinafter set forth.
Inthe accompanying drawings the invention is disclosed in a concrete and preferred form, but changes of construction may be made without departing from the scope of the invention.
In the said drawings: Figure 1 is a plan view of a bath tub with the fixture embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a bath tub, partly broken away, also showing the fixture embodying my invention. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the fixture taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4c is a plandetail view of the parts shown in Fig. 3, with the tube for the sprinkler head shown in section and with the faucet indicated in dotted lines.
Similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
1 indicates a bath tub of any suitable construction provided at one end with the faucet 2-, having hot and cold water pipes 3 and 4: respectively and having a vertically disposed portion 5.
6 indicates the upright tube having the sprinkler heads 7 and 8 for throwing streams of water inwardly at an angle to each other and downwardly, as described in my said previous application. In the construction shown in my said prior application the tube 6 was attached to the faucet by means of horizontal clamping bars engaging the upper and underside of the hot and cold water pipes 3 and 4:- lhis placed the tube 6 so near to the edge of the tub that drippings would sometimes fall outside the tub, and, moreover, the bars could not always be relied upon to furnish a secure clampingmeansholding the tube 6 immovable. With the improved fixture shown in the. drawings, the tube 6 is placed forwardly of the faucet and sufiiciently remote from the edge of the tub to prevent drippings from falling outside thereof, and, at the same time, the tube 6 is held immovably and has no tendency to rock.
9 indicates a supporting member provided in its upper surface with a vertically disposed socket 10 in which the tube 6 is seated, and carries on its under surface a nipple. l1 communicating with thesocket 10 aforesaid. 12 is a flexible water connection between the nipple and the faucet. At one side edge of said supporting member there is formed a clamping surface 13 adapted to engage the vertically disposed portion 5 of the faucet.
14: is a clamping bar having a side edge clamping surface 15, which complements the surface 13, and which is also adapted to engage the portion 5 of the faucet.
curing them together, constitute a clamp.
consisting of two, members having complementary edge surfaces adapted to clamp the portion 5, and that one of said members has a forwardly extending support provided with a socket and a nipple as described.
What is claimed, is: V
1. In a shower bath, a tub, a water faucet having a vertically disposed portion, a supporting member, having a clamping surface on one of its side edges adapted to engage the vertically disposed portion of the faucet, and having a vertically disposed socket in its upper surface, a nipple extending from the lower surface of the supporting member andcommunicating with the socket, an upright tube, seated in said socket, provided with a sprinkler head, a water connection between the faucet and the. nipple, a clamping bar also engaging the vertically disposed portion of the faucet, and means for securing the supporting member and clamping bar together.
2. In a shower bath, a tub, a water fau-. cet having a vertically disposed portion, a
M4 and.
head, a Water'connection between the faucet and the nipple, and means for clamping the supporting member on the vertically disposed portion of the faucet aforesaid.
3. In a shower bath, a clamp comprising two members having two complementary edge surfaces adaptedto clamp a vertically disposed faucet, and means for securing.
said members together, a support extending forwardly from one of said members having a socket in its upper surface, and a nipple on the lower surface of said support communicating with said socket.
Signed at NeW York city, in the county 15 of New York and State of New York this 8th day of August A. D. 1913.
