CAKE TURNER.
APPLICATION HLgap APR. 23,1909.
Patented 0011.19,!909,
WITNESSES: [NVENIOR 77W, By Mf/Wmd UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES H. HACKER, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
CAKE-TURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 19, 1909.
Application filed April 23, 1909. Serial No. 491,698.
lVith the foregoing object in View, my in 'vention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, which will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention; Fig. 2 is a bottom plan'view of the same, and Fig. 3- is a section on line 3-3 of Fig. 2. I
A represents a blade, made from any suitable material, but referably from sheet metal. 1 is a metal rod, preferably bent downwardly at 2, and thence upwardly at 3. on one end of which is provided a handle 4.
Near one end of the blade A is riveted or otherwise secured, a journal plate 5,having a journal box or loop 6, provided with a slotv 7 therein. The free end of the rod 1 being inserted within the journal box or loop and pivotally secured therein by means of the pin 8. Secured to the said blade in a similar manner to the rightof the journal plate ust described, is an additional journal plate 9, the object of which will presently appear.
10 is an additional rod, shaped substantially to conform to the rod 1, and is pivotally mounted on the rod 1 by means of a collar 11 being secured on the said rod at a predetermined distance from one end thereof, the said collar being provided with cars 12, the rod 1 being pivotally secured between the said ears by means of a pin 13 being extended through the said ears and rod. Secured on one end of the rod 10 is a thumb plate 14, while the opposite or free end of the said rod is extended within the journal box 15 rovided' in the journal plate 9. Thus it Wlll be seen that the rod 10 mounted u onthe rod 1 crosses the latter rod at a point indicated 16, when the device is in its normal position, and when the thumb plate 14 is pressed downwardly the rods assume a substantially parallel position.
17 is a tension spring, the ends of which I are secured to the rods land 10 respectively, whereby the blade A is made to return to its normal position as soon as pressure from the thumb plate 14 onthe rod 10 is released. My device is operated as follows: The
operator grasps the handle 4 and inserts the, blade A beneath a cake, and then raises it a short distance above the griddle'.'-;,-, The thumb plate 14 is given a quick press," downward,
therebycausing the rod 10 to"'change from its crossed position above the rod 1 to a position parallel therewith, and in this position the blade A has been rotated to a degree suificient to turn the cake over, and the moment the pressure on the thumb plate is released, the action of; the tension spring 17 on therods is such as to cause the blade A to return to its normal-position ready for the next operation.
Slight changes and alterations might be resorted to in the form and arrangement of the several parts described, without departingfrom the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not wlsh to limit myself to the exact construction as herein set forth; but
l-Iaving fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
- 1. The combination in a cake-turner comprising a blade, having a rod pivotally secured thereto, of an additional rod extended across the said first mentioned rod, and pivotally mounted thereon, means provided on the saldblade engaging \vlth one end of the said mounted rod, thefree end of the said mounted rod adapted to be depressed, thereby causing the said mounted rod to assume a substantially parallel )osition relative to the said first mentioned rod, and thereby effect a rotative movement of the said blade, substantially as described.
2. The combination in a cake-turner comprising a blade, provided with a rod pivotally secured thereto, having a handle secured on.-the free end thereof, ot'an additional rod extended across the said first men tioncd rod and pivotally mounted thereon, means provided on the said blade engaging one end of the said mounted rod, :1 thumb plate secured on the opposite end of the said rod, the thumb plate adapted to be dopressed and thereby cause the said mounted rod to assume a substantially parallel position relative to the sai ltirst lllrntionbd rod,
thereto,
thereby ettecting a rotative movement of the said blade, substantially as described.
3. The combination in a. cake-turner comprising a blade, having a rod journaled thereto, a handle provided on the free end ofthe said rod, of an additional rod extended across the first mentioned rod, means pivotally securing the said additional rod on the said first mentioned rod, a thumb plate provided on one end of the said additional rod, and means journaling the opposite end to the said blade. the said thumb plate adapted to be depressed and thereby cause the said additional rod to assume a substantially parallel position relative to the said first men tioned rod, and thereby effect a rotative movement of the said blade, and means secured to the said rods whereby the said rods are made to return to their normal position when the pressure from the said thumb plate is released, and thereby effect an opposite rotative movement of the said blade, substantially as described.
4. The combination in a caketurner comprising a blade, having a rod journaled a handle provided on the free end l i r l v i l i I l 1 of the said rod, of an additional rod pivot ally mounted on, and extended crosswise the said first mentioned rod. means Journalmg one end of the said mounted rod to the pressed and thereby cause the said mounted rod to assume'a substantially parallel position relative to the said first mentioned rod. and thereby etiect a rotative movement of the said blade, means limiting the rotative movement of the said blade, and means for causing the said rods to return to their normal position when the pressure from the said thumb plate is released, and thereby etlecting an opposite rotative movement of the said blade, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
