JAMES GLOBER. OF OMAHA CITY, NEBRASKA.
Letters Patent No. 93,705, dated Agust 17,1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINE FOR TURNING THE EDG-ES OF SHEET-METAL.
The-Schedule referred to in these Letters `Patent and making part of the same.
Be it known that I, JAMES GLOBER, of Omaha City, Douglas county, Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Machine for Turning the Edge'of SheetMetaI; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same,
reference being had to tbe annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a plane view on the top;
Figure 2, a front elevation of tlie'same; and
Figure 3, a perspective View of a piece of sheetmetal with the edges turned,
This machine is used for the purpose of turning up the edges of sheet-metal, as shown iu fig. 3, and used more particularly in the construction of tin-roofing.
It consists of a frame, a, which may be either of 1t will be seen that by starting the sheet with either' edge in the grooved rollers, and then pushing the ma- 4chine forward by means of the handle' t, the edges will,
lin the rst instance, run up against the side of the two conical rollers between them and the twol wheels b, which partially turn up`the edges of the metal sheet, and is completed `by passing on so the partially turnedlup edge will pass through between the rollers 1 and 2, and 3 andv 4, and leaves4 the 'metal iu the shape shown in fig. 3, with `both edges turned up.
The rollers 1 and 4 are furnished with movable boxes, m, and a thumb-screw, n, so the rollers may be set nearer together or wider apart, as desired, to en ablel the cross-seams, in the case of tin-rooting, tohpass through.
The machine is intended more particularly to turn up the edges of tin sheets after they have been joined together in. a long strip for roofing, so that two long Astrips lying together' may he seamed for soldering, and
may be used either on a roof or in the shop.`
Having thus described my invention, v What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:
l claim -the frame a, wheels b c, conical rollers l d, grooved rollers e e, handle i, rollers 1, 2, 3, 4, (the rollers l and 4 being adjustable by means of the movable boxes m 011,) and thumb-screws n n, all constructed and arranged to loperate as and for the purposes set forth. f
