Description

PI NI INFORMATION AND IDENTIFICATION MEANS FOR RETURNABLB PACKAGES. 937,059.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 22, 1908.
Patented Oct. 19, 1909.
ANDREW- B. umym o0. PHBTWUTHOGMPNEMWASHIKGTO PHILIP N. FALLER, 0F FRANKLIN, PENNSYLVANIA.
INFORMATION AND IDENTIFICATION MEANS FOR. RETURN ABLE PACKAGES.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed September 22, 1908. Serial N o.
Patented Oct. 19, 1909.
To all whom it may concern:
By a reference to Fig. 1, it will be noted Be it known that I, PHILIP N. FALIQER, a I that I attach to the case 1, a frame 2 comcitizen of the United States, Franklin, in the county of Venango and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Inf0rmation and Identification Means for Retur able Packages, specification.
In numerous commercial enterprises certain products and commodities are shipped or delivered in various packages or receptacles, such as baskets, crates, barrels, or boxes, which are to be returned to the shipper, manufacturer, or dealer, and it is necessary that some means of information and identiof which the following is a fication be contained upon such package,
showing that its return is intended; also to whom it should be returned; what the content of the package was when shipped; and other matter of like nature. Inasmuch as this information, or at least a portion of it, may differ at each shipment of the package, it becomes desirable that such information should be in a form which may be easily changed. Much time and labor may be saved, and mistakes avoided, if this information in its original form, rather than a memoranda thereof, be available and in shape to be sent to the accounting department at the point of shipment when the package is returned for the purpose of giving credit therefor, and making other accounting entries. 7
It is, therefore, the purpose of my invention to provide an information and identification means for returnable packages which shall possess all of the desirable features above named.
For the purpose of illustrating one Way in which my invention may be rendered practicable, I have shown in the drawings a case,-
such as is usually ping bottled beer.
In said drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a case showing the application of my device thereto. Fig. 2 is a section on line IIII of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section on line III-III of Fig. l. I
The same reference numerals indicate identical parts in the several views.
used by brewers for shipposed preferably of metal, the inner edges of which are formed into a rabbet 3, thus making a receptacle, or holder, for a card 4 k containing the desired informative matter;
the front of the frame is, of course, open for the purpose of fully exposing to view the inthe for returnable formation contained upon the face of the card 4:.
At one side of the frame, preferably at the top, is provided an opening or slot 5 for the insertion and removal of said card.
Above the opening 5 is formed an outwardly projecting lip 6, which serves the double purpose of preventing the card from being accidentally removed, and also preventing moisture and the like from getting in behind the card.
The frame is preferably located just below the hand hole 7, from which a notch 8 extends downward beyond the upper edge of card 4:; this is for the'purpose of more ready access to the card, to push its upper edge outward, thus facilitating its removalfrom frame.
The informative matter which is placed upon card 4 will, in most cases, be substantially that 'shown, filled in to conform to the facts in each case.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. An information and identification means for returnable having rabbeted inner edges, adapted to form a receptacle for a card or sheet, there being an opening into said receptacle at one side thereof adapted for the insertion and said card, an outwardly-extending lip located in juxtaposition to said opening for the purpose set forth, there being an opening in said package at the back of said lip to afford access to and facilitate the removal of said card.
2. An information and identification means packages consisting of a frame attached to such package and having rab beted inner edges adapted to form a receptacle for a card or sheet, there being a side packages, consisting of a frame attached to such package,
removal of opening into said receptacle adapted for the informative inattei, adapted to le'niovaloly' insertion and removal of said card or sheet, occupy said frame. 10 an outwardly extending lip located in jux- In testimony whereof I afiix my signature taposition to said opening for the purpose in presence of two witnesses.
