TOBACCO PIPE.
APPLIQATION FILED JAY. 12, 1909. 935,950.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RICHARD WOJ'AN, or NEW YORK, N. Y.
TOBACCO-PIPE.
' nicotin, and maybe readily cleaned.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of my improved tobacco pipe; Fig. 2 a cross section on line 22, Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 a similar section on line3-3, Fig. 1.
The pipe stem 10 is of tubular form and is connected to neck 11 of bowl 12 by a slip v which connects the parts in a reliable and joint. If desired neck 11 may be provided with a cork or other lining 13, as shown. Within stem 10 is contained a tightly fitting core, threaded to constitute a screw 14. The
. thread of this screw contacts with the inner face of the stem, to form a long spiral smoke passage 15 between stem and screw.
At its front screw 14 is made integral with a tubular mouth piece 16, the combined length of screw and mouth piece being such that the latter projects out of the forward end of stem 10. A packing 17 is preferably interposed between the end of stem 10 and mouth piece 16, such packing being contained within a circumferential groove of the mouth piece. In this way the screw is securely attached to the stem by a slip joint smoke-tight manner. A transverse duct 18, near the forward end of screw 14, establishes communication between spiral smoke passage 15 and the-central bore 19 of" mouth piece 16.
As shown, I make stem 10, as well as sorew 14, of slightly tapering form, their diameters diminishlng gradually from the mouth piece toward the bowl, as shown. In this way the screw may be tightly pushed into the stem, and may be as readily pulled out of the same without disconnectlng the stem from the bowl. j
It will be seen that my improved pipe presents-a long passage to the smoke, so that the la'tter is thoroughly cooled before reaching the mouth. At the-same time the flow of nicotin fromthe bowl, as well as the flow of saliva toward the bowl are eifectively checked. The pipe may be readily cleaned Specification of Letters Patent.

by drawing the core out of the stem, when the entire lengt-h'of the spiral smoke passage will be laid open.
I claim:
1. A tobacco pipe provided with a bowl having a bored neck whose bore leadsinto the bottom of the bowl and forms a shoulder therein at the bottom and centrally thereof, ,a tapering tubular stem having one end fitted in the said neck and disposed against said shoulder so as to have direct communication with the interior of the bowl, a tapering threaded core in the stem and having an integral bored mouth piece projecting from the stem with the bore of the mouth piece communicating with the spiral passage formed by the threads of the core, the diameters of both the sterh and the core diminishing gradually from the mouth piece toward the bowl, whereby the core may be withdrawn from the stem without disconnecting the stem from the neck.
2. A tobacco pipe provided with a bowl having a bored neck which leads into the bottom of the bowl and forms a shoulder therein, a tubular stem having one end fitted in said neck and projecting into the bowl and forced against said shoulder so as to have direct communication with the interior of the bowl, a threaded core in the stem and hav ng an integral bored mouth piece projecting from the stem, with the bore of the mouth piece communicating with the spiral passage formed by the threads of the core.
' 3. A tobacco pipe provided with a bowl, a neck, a taperin tubular stem engaging the neck and pro ecting into the bowl for directcommunication therewith, a threaded tapering core disposed within the stem and provided with an extension formin a mouth piece on the stem, the diameters 0 both the stem and core diminishing gradually from the mouth piece toward the bowl, whereby the core may be withdrawn from the stem without disconnecting the stem from the neck. I
4. A tobacco pipe provided with a bowl, a neck, a tapering tubular stem reduced 1n diameter toward'the bowl and engaging the neck and projecting into the bowl at the lower portion thereof and terminating centrally' thereof and having direct commun ca- 'tion therewith, a correspondingly tapering threaded core disposed within the stem and having -a portion projecting from the stem tion of the core having an annular groove adacent the outer end of the hollow stem, and
I a packing within the groove of the month piece to provide a smoke-tight connection between the mouth piece and the outer end of the stem.
A tobacco pipe having a bowl provided with a bored neck, a frictional lining Within the neck, a tapering tubular stein fitted in the neck with the end of the stem projecting into the bowl and the outer Wall of the stem engaging with the frictional lining of the neck, a tapering threaded core in the stem provided with a spiral groove, and a mouth piece integral with the threaded core and having its bore connected with the spiral groove of the threaded core, Substantially as described.
Signed by me at New York, (Manhattan) N. Y., this 11th day of January. 1909.
