Description

W. W. CLINDININ.
TRUss. APPLICATION FILED DEO. 21,1908.
Patented Oct` 5, 1909.
fnverziar william (Zi/diran WILLIAM W. CLINDININ, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed December 21, 1908.
Patented Get. 5, 1909. Serial No. 468,505.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IVILLIAM IV. DININ, a.. subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trusses, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in trusses for hernia or rupture, the object being to provide a truss that will be easy for the wearer and that will adapt itself to the movementsof the body .without losing its proper position.
A further object of my invention is to provide a truss pad having such form as to cause no uneasiness on the part of the wearer even when a moderate pressure is applied to said pad. And a further object of my invention is to provide a positive and adjustable means for tilting the truss pad, whereby a slight upward pressurevmay be brought to bear on the affected parts in order to counter-balance the downward tendency caused by gravity.
Cther objects will appear hereinafter.
TWith these objects in view, my invention consists in such a novel construction and arrangement of parts all as will be hereinafter fully set fort-h and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in whichh Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved truss in its preferred form. Fig. 2 is a detail front elevation showing the truss pad spring, and Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view showing the truss pad tilting means.
Referring now to the drawings, l indicates the truss belt which is made preferably of webbing or other suitable material. The truss pad 2 is preferably made of vulcanite and may be elliptical or circular in form. The pad may be disposed, as shown, or the major axis of the ellipse may be vertical if so desired. The understrap 3 is provided with the usual buckle 4 and loop 5 which is adapted to slide easily on the belt l for adjusting itself to the various positions of the wearer. The belt 1 is provided with the usual buckle 6 and is preferably arranged to buckle on the left side of the wearer, as shown.
Arranged in front and secured to the understrap 3 by means of the buckle 7 is a CLIN- small, preferably leather strap 8, provided with a sheet metal hook 9 for engaging the wire belt loop 10 which is integral with the conoidal spring 1l. The hook 12 secured to the understrap 3 is adapted to engage the spring 11 at 13, as shown, or at let as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 3. This construction permits the pad 2 to be tilted at any desired angle, and forms the main feature of my invention. If it is desired to have the pad 2 produce a slightly upward pressure on the body at the point of Contact therewith, the strap 8 may be pulled through the buckle 7 and its tongue inserted in the perforation 15, .when the pad 2 will have the required tilt for producing the desired result. The spring l1 may be secured in the pad 2 in any suitable manner; for instance, during the process of forming the pad, the spring may be inserted in the rubber when the same is in a plastic or molten condition.
IVhile I have shown what I deem to be the preferable form of my improved truss, I do not Wish to be limited thereto, as there might be minor changes made in the details of construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. In a truss, the combination with a belt provided with a buckle, a spring integral with a loop for engaging said belt, a pad secured to said spring at the end thereof opposite said loop, an understrap slidably mounted at the rear of said belt at one end thereof, and provided with a hook at the other end, said hook being adapted to engage said spring, and a strap adjustably secured to said understrap and provided with a hook for engaging said loop, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. In a truss, a belt and a buckle therefor, an understrap having one end thereof loosely mounted on said belt, a wire loop adapted to slip over said-belt for supporting a conoidal spring integral therewith, a pad secured to said spring at its inner eX- tremity, a hook on said understrap for engaging any of the coils of said spring, and an auxiliary strap adjustably secured to said understrap provided with a hook for engaging said loop, whereby said pad may be tilted, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
3. 1n a truss, a belt and a buckle therefor, an understrap having one end thereof loosely mounted on said belt, a wire loop adapted to slip over said belt for supporting a conoiclal spring integral therewith, a pad Secured to said spring at its inner extremity, a hook on said understrap for engaging any of the coils of Said Spring, a buckle Secured to said unclerstrap adjacent the front end thereof, and a Strap provdecl` with a hook adapted to engage said loop In testimony whereof I have signed my l5 name to this specification in the presence of two Subscribing witnesses.
