To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that we, OASSIUS M. BAR- TI-IOLOMEW and THOMAS BARTI-IOLOMEW, citizens of the United States, residing at Golumbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hoop-Projecting Devices, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to an improvement in hoop projecting device, and the object is to provide means whereby the hoop can be projected or discharged and after the hoop has traveled a certain distance it will be caused to be returned to the operator.
The invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and pointed outin the claims.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a view in perspective; Fig. 2 is an end view; and Fig. 3 is a view in side elevation with a portion of the invention broken away, and Fig. 4C is a top plan view.
A represents a handle, which is provided with a forked or slotted end 2. Connected to the sides 3, 3 of the fork and extending over the forked opening is a rubber or elastic band 4, which is connected to the sides by hooks 5, 5. The hoop 6 is placed between the sides 3 of the forked or slotted portion and by pressing downwardly upon the hoop and holding the handle in a horizontal position the hoop is caused to be discharged and is given a rotary motion, which is caused by the pressure of the rubber band on the hoop. This action, which causes the hoop to be projected outwardly, gives it a backward revolution which causes the hoop to return after it has traveled a certain distance, according to the force given to the handle in discharging the hoop therefrom.
From the foregoing it will be seen that we have provided a very simple toy, which can be operated very easily, and which is Specification of Letters Patent.

simple in construction, cheap to manufacture, and which will discharge a hoop, giving the hoop a rotary motion, which will cause it to return to the point of discharge.
It is evident that more or less slight changes mightbe resorted to in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of our invention, and hence we do not wish to be limited to the exact construction herein set forth, but
Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A hoop projecting device comprising a handle and frictional means on the handle so located as to grip the rim of the hoop back of a vertical line passing through the extension thereof whereby a hoop may be discharged with a backward rotation from the handle and will return to the point of discharge.
2. A hoop projecting device consisting of a handle having a forked hoop receiving end, and an elastic frictional means carried thereby in position to engage the hoop when in the fork whereby on pressing the handle downward the hoop may be discharged with backward rotation such as to cause it to re turn to the, point of discharge.
3. A hoop projectingdevice, comprising a handle having a forked end in which the hoop is received and elastic bands connected to the forked end and engaging the hoop for discharging it with a backward rotation from the handle for causing the hoop to return to the point of discharge when the handle is pressed downwardly.
