Description
UNITED .STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES A. wENTWoETH, 0E BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIeNoE vTo ALVIN o. NoEcEoSSL'oE SAME PLAGE.
IMPRVED KEY-RING AND CHECK.
Specication form-ing part of Letters Patent No. 93,506, dated August 10, 1869.
To all whom it may conce/m:
Beit known that I, CHARLES A. WENT- WORTH, of the city of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Key-Ring and Check; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this Specification, in which- Figure l is aside view of my improved ring, Showing it locked. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view of a part of the ring, showing it unlocked and'ready to be opened. Fig. 3 is an edge view or the same. .y
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved keyring which shall be so constructed and arranged as to be securely locked and yet allow the keys to be conveniently put on and taken oli', and which will allow the owners name and address to be conveniently engraved or stamped upon it; and it consists of the ring constructed and arranged as hereinafter more fully described.
A iS the body of the ring, which is made in about the shape shown in Fig. l-that is to say, it is made open and dat, so that the owners name may be conveniently engraved or f stamped upon it.
- To one end of the open ring are attached two washers, B and C, one upon each side. The Washer B may be stationary or movable, and has an inwardly-projecting pin attached to its inner side to enter a hole in the other end of said ring, as shown in Fig. 2. The other washer, C, must always be movable, being pivoted at its central point to the end of the ring A. The washer (l should be slotted or notched upon one Side, as shown in Figs. l and 2, so that when turned into the position Shown in Fig. 2, the ring may be opened for the insertion or removal of the keys; but when turned into the position Shown in Fig. 1 it will be impossible to open the ring without first turning the washer C back into the position shown in Fig. 2.
If desired, the washer B may be made without a pin to receive the end of the ring A, and this construction I prefer as being simpler and holding the end of the ring equally secure.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An improved key-ring, formed by the combination of the open ring A and washers B and C with each other, said parts being constructed and operating substantially as herein shown and described, and for' the purpose set forth.
GHAS. A. WENTWOR'IH.
