JEREMIAH GRIZZELL, OF ELLVOOD CITY, PENNSYLVANIA.
WINDOW-FIXTURE.
Application file March 2, 1968.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEREMIAH GRIZZELL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Ellwood `City, in the county of Lawrence and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lVindcw-Fixtnres, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a window fixture, and the primary Object of my invention is to provide a fixture that can be secured to window-frames of various widths.
A further Object of my invention is to provide a fixture that will not mar or injure the frame to which it is secured.
lVith the above and other obj ects in view, which will more readily appear as the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be presently described and then specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawing forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my fixture partly broken away, Fig. 2 is a plan of the same, Fig. 3 is a side clevation of a portion of the fixture, Fig. %L is a side elevation of a curtain pole bracket, Figs. 5, (3 and 7 are detached detail pers ective Views of the members constituting one of the shade roller supports, Fig. 8 is a detail view partly .in section and partly in elevation of one of the shade roller supports.
To put my invention into practice, I provide two plates 1 and 2, which are adjustably connected together so that they may be moved longitudinally of each other. The connection shown in the present illustration eomprises a pin 4 carried by the plate 1 which engages in a slot 3 provided therefor in the plate 2. The upper edge of one of the plates, herein shown as the plate 2, is provided with teeth 5, and the lower edge of the other plate is provided with teeth 6.
Pivotally secured to the plate 1 is a locking strap 7 carrying near its upper end, an upwardly extending arm 8; this arm S is pivotally connected to one end of a link 9 another end of which link is pivotally connected to a lever 10 fulcrumed as at 11 to the plate 1. By actuating the lever 10, the strap 7 can be tilted or locked on its pivot so as to engage the same with the teeth 5 and G of the plates 1 and 2 in the manner shown in Fig. 1 of the drawin'gs, and thus Specfication of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. la, 1959.
Serial No. 413,205.
lock the plates in the position to which they have been adjusted. \Vhen the looking strap 7 is actuated so as to disengage it from the teeth 5 and 6, the plates 1 and 2 are free to be moved longitudinally, so as to lengthen or shorten the fixture, as may be desired.
The outer ends of the plates l and 2 are bent at right angles to the body of the plates, and the angnlar portions 2 thns formed are provided with prongs 12 for engaging the vertical side edges of a window frame 122 to secure the fixture in position. he said angular portions 2' on the plates l and 2 carry brackets 12 provided at their "z ends with apertured lngs 13, which apertured lugs receive the pintle ends 14:' of curtain pole supporting brackets 14, which brackets are provided with substantially U-shaped members 15, in which the curtain pole 16 is received and held.
Means is also provided in connection with the fixture for supporting the shade roller, the construction herein illustrated for this purpose embodying clips 24 and 25 having extensions 26 and 27 respectively, which, when the shade support is in position, lie one against the other. The extension 27 projects beyond the extension 26 and is provided with a notch or equivalent Opening 28 to receive the pintle of the shade roller 29. To clamp the clips 24 and 25 upon the plates 1 and 2, I provide the extension 26 with a threaded aperture 30'. The lever 32 has one end threaded into the aperture 30', and on said lever is an eccentric or cam 81 which is received in the Opening 30 of the extension 26. By swinging the lever 32 to bind the eccentric of cam 31 in the Opening 30, the clips 24 and 25 will be firmly held in engagement with their respective plates. It is to be understood, and will be clearly evident from an inspection of the drawing, that one of the shade roller supports as has been described is carried by the plate 1, and the other shade roller support is carried by the plate 2.
It is thought that my invention will be fully understood from the foregoing description, and I reserve the right to make such changes as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having now deseribed my invention, what I claim as new, is
l. In a window fixture, the combination with a window frame, of two plates adjustably connected together, the upper edge of one plate and the lower edge of the other plate being provided with teeth, a looking strap pivotally mounted on one of the plates for engaging said teeth, a lever pivotally mounted on one of the plates for moving said strap into and out of engagement with said teeth, prongs carried by the ends of said plates for engagement with a window frame, and shade roller support adjustably conneeted to said plates.
2. In a window fixture, the combination with a window frame, of a pair of plates slidablv conneeted together, means carried by said plates to engage said window frame, the upper edge of one plate and the lower edge of the other plate being provided with teeth, a looking strap pivotally secured to one of the plates for engagement with the teeth of both plates, a lever pivotally mounted on the same plate and conneeted to said locking strap for actuating the latter, a shade roller supporting means carried by said plates.
3. In a window fixture, the combination with a window frame, of two overlapping plates slidably conneeted together, one of said plates provided on the upper edge with teeth and the other plate provided on the lower edge thereof with teeth, a looking strap pivoted to one of theplates and engaging the teeth of both. plates to secure the latter in adjusted position, a lever pivoted to one of the plates and conneeted to said looking strap for moving the latter into and out of engagement with the teeth of said plates, and adjustable shade roller snpports carried by said plates.
4. In a window fixture, the eombination with a window frame, of a pair of overlapping slidabl'y conneeted plates, looking means for securing said plates in adjusted position, means carried by the ends of the plates for engagement with the window frame to secure the fixture in position thereon, and shade roller supports carried by said plates, each of said supports comprising two clip members engaging the plates and having extensions, and means carried `by one of said extensions and engaging the other eX- tension to lock the clip members on the plates.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
J EREMIAH GRIZZELL.
