To lwhom it may concern-: A
Be it known that I, F. E. BROWN, of Springville, 'in the county of Linn, and State of Iowa, havel invented anew and useful Improvement in Apparatus for Operatin'gand Fastening WindowBlinds; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description 4thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and being a part of this specification.
The nature of this invention relates to an apparatus4 so constructed, thatby its use outside window-blinds may be opened and closed, and secured in any desired position by the operator 'within the house, andwithout the necessity of raising or opening the window.
The invention consists in a suitable hinge, operated from the interior of the buildingl by' means of a rod extending through the Window-casing, and connecting with saidv hinge by a4 properarrn, the whole so arranged as to operate as herein described.l
In order to enable those skilled inthe matter to manufacture and operate this device, I will now proceed to name and describe its various parts, 'their relation to each other, andtheir operation.
In the drawings, which are a plan vewf A represents a cross-secti0n of a window-frame, through which passes the rod B, provided at its' inner end'with any plain or ornamented style of handle, a, which may be desired.
C is a hinge, which may be of the ordinary construction of window-blind hinges, and is provided with an arm, b, to the outer end of which is pivoted theY outer end of the curved lever or` connecting-rod 0, while the inner e'nd of said-rod is in turn pivoted to the rod B, which is ,slightly curved for the purpose, as at d.
Ainetallicsocket, E, is secured to the inner face ofthe window-frame, and through this socket the rod B also passes.
This socket is provided with a set-screw, D, by means of 'which the'rod B may be secured in any desired posit-ion.
These hinges and their attachments should be made in pairs, one of each pair being for the right and the other for the' left-hand blind.

The operation' of this device is so simple 4that a fur- ',ther description thereof is deemed unnecessary.
Vhat I claimv as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is The combination and arrangement' of the guide-rod B, provided 'at one end with a handle, a, and set-screw D, for securing it in any position, and the pivoted arm c, jointed as described, and hinged to the blind, as and for the purposes above`set forth.
