Description

@eine` mijn.
B. 'EUSPERRYZ OF AURORA, ILLINOIS.
Lettcrs-Pctent No. 93,363, dated August 3, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT l IN SODA-FOUNTAIN S.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent andmakin'g part of the same.
To all whom lit ma/y concern: v
Be it known that I, B. E. SPERRY, of Aurora, in the county of Kane, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Beverage- Pumps; vand. I do'hereby declare that the following .is a full, clear, and cxactdescription of the construction and operation ofthe same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and `to the letters and iigures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the. drawings is a representation of a longitudinal section of my device, and
Figure 2 is a cross-section thereof.
My invention relates to devices for pumping beverages into drinking-vessels, and
It consists mainly in arranging and adjusting means for that purpose in a more efficient and perfect manner 4 than has heretofore been done.
To this eid, I construct a box in a quadrangular form, as shown on the drawings, and adjust therein the devices hereinafter named.
The letter A represents a force-pump, adjusted on the bottom of the box, and aixed thereto by means of suitable screws or bolts.
The lower end of the cylinder of this pumpris made of a bell-shape, as shown, and being raised at its centre, a few inches above the bottom, allows the fluid to .pass into said cylinder through small apertures in the bell-shaped part thereof. l
' The letter ais a valve placed in the cylinder, which opens and closes the aperture thereunder, while the pumping process is being carried on. l
The letter B is a conducting`tube, leading from the cylinder of tbe pump limmediately above the valve upward,- and through the top of the box.v
The letter C represents one of a series of pumps adjusted at one end of my box, each of which sits and works in a compartment holding sirups or other desirable uids for mixture with the uid'in the main-body of the box, or which may be pumped through the conductor B. l
From. 'each of the compartments, above named I have a conducting-pipe, marked E, arranged at vcon- These last-named pumps are operated by means of the thumb-pieces c and the4 c oiled wire spring s, while the pump A is operated by the lever G, hinged to the side of. the box, as shown, and working in a slot out in the side of the box, at the point e.
The letter H is a second, or false bottom, arranged and adjusted in the form and manner represented, forming an interior chamber, L. I usually construct this bottom of zinc, and I prefer, also, to line the box,
in whole or in part, with the same material.
The letter P is a trap-door, secured by screws and made removable, to furnish an opening through which the sirups or other desirable uids are poured into the small compartments, in which the pumps O are operf ated.
rIlhe letter R is aV hinged door, leading into the chamber L, and provides means for the introduction of fluids into said chamber, or for passing fluid therefrom when desirable for cleansing or otherwise. y y
The uid is introduced into the main' box through the door S, or the box may be placed immediately over a vessel containing duid impregnated with Vcarbonicacid gas, and communication formed between the cylinder of pump A and the contents of such vessel, by suitable apertures in the bottom of the` box and the top of such vessel.
` What I claim asmy invention, and'desire to secure Y by Letters Patent, is-
A beverage-drawing apparatus, having pumps A and O, doors P, S, and It, false bottom H, and sirupcompartments as described, all encased or 'forming parts of one box, and arranged and' operating substantially as specified. t
In testimony that I claim the above, I have hereunto subscribed my name, in the presence of two wity B. n. ernaar-- Witnesses:
JAMEs D. Fox, CHARLES G. Mnrznan.
