0. F. BOWMAN AND STEPHEN SLYKER, or WILKESBARRE, PENN- SYLYANIA.
Letters Patent No. 91,707 dated June 22, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN PNEUMATIC DEVICES FOR. IORCING- LIQUIDS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, 0-. F. BOWMAN and STEPHEN SLYKER, of Wilkesbarre, in the county of'Luzerne, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valu able Improvement in Devices for Pumping Liquids; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being hadto the annexed drawings, making a part of a this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1, of the drawings, is a front sectional view of our device.
Figure 2 is an end view of the same. 7
Our invention relates to means for pumping liquids; and
It consists mainly in a novel arrangement of devices,
whereby liquids of many varieties may be forced to any desirable altitude at one-and the same time.
The letter A, of the drawings, represents an aerometer, which we adjust in a suitable water-reservoir, in the same-manner that gas-holders are arranged.
The letter B is also an air-holder, and'through which air may be pumped into the 'aerometer A.
The letter O is a pipe, connecting the air-holders A and B with a faucet, (0, operating therein.
The letter 0 is a faucet, or valve, for the escape of water from the chamber 13.
The'letter c is an air-valve, or tube, opened and closed by a faucet, through'which air may be introducedrto the-holders A and B.
, The letter '71, is a pipe, connected with the holder B, through afaucet, as shown. This pipe passes over the vessels containing the liquids, which are marked K, and small pipes, s, lead from the same into each of such vessels, in the manner represented on fig. 1.
The letters 0 are conduits, leading from the vessels in which the liquids are stored, and which are opened 'or closed by suitable'fiiucets.
The pipe leading from .the holder A to the holder B should be of elastic material, to enable the holder A to move up or down i n the'water.
Our device does not necessarily include the holder B, as a pipe leading directly from the holder A to the liquid-receptacles may be arranged so as to perform. eiTective service. i
To operate our device, the holder A must be filled with air, its bottom being open, and sitting; in the water. Weight is then placed on the holder A, and
ncsses.
