usefnl in the ofices of surgeons an l ena lid 8 of the bodyis attached by means of This invention relates to a holder adapted to receive a roll of absorbent cotton, and which is adapted to enable the cotton to be withdrawn as desired, while at the same time it is fully protected from dust and dirt.
The device is expected to be es e'cially pharmacists, and in dispensaries and hospitals.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts to -be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth inthe claims.
Reference is to be had ing drawings formin a part of this specification, in which simi ar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective of the device, representin the same as attached to a wall; Flg. 2 is-a ront elevation of the device, representing the outer cover .as raised; and Fig. 3 is a vertical cross section through the device andv showing the manner in which the cotton may be removed, and illustrating how it is protected by the outer cover.
Referring more articularly to the` parts, 1 represents the bo y ofthe device, which is adapted to be constructed of sheet met'at and is in the form of an elo ated box. The rear wall `of this box is provlded with Jflan s 2, which enable it to be attached to a wel by means of suitable fastenin devices or screws 3. The forward wall 4 o the body is provided at its lower portion with an 'opening 5, the horizontal ed es of which are crimped inwardly so as to crm rounded lips 6 Vwhich will guide the cotton in` being unro1led.-` --.The cotton. is in the form of a roll 7, and is ada ted to be inserted asshown. In order to le the roll of cotton to be inserted, the
to the accompanyhinges 8*. The opening 5 is rovided with a door 9 which is attached to t e upperedge of the opening by resilient hingesor spring hinges 10. These sprin hinges tend tokeep the door closed, at whic time'itslower edgev Amovable lid andhaving 4l1 lies near the loweredge of the opening 5, but it should not overlap the lower edge of the opening to any great extent. The outer side ofthe door is provided with a suit'- able handle l2, which enables the door to be pulled outwardly so that the loose end 13 of the raw cotton may be drawn through the lower edge of the opening 5. The lower edge of the opening 5 is elevated above the bottom of the body so that the entire opening and the door 9 therefor, may be concealed by an outer cover 14. The form of this cover isv clearly illustrated in Fig. l." It is simply an elongated member wh1ch is dished on its 4inner side so as to provide a space for the inner cover, and the projecting loose end ot' the cotton roll. This outer cover therefore excludes the dirt from the cotton. It can be raised, as indicated in Fig. 3, so as to enable the lprojecting loose end of the roll to be seized so as to draw out a quantity of the cotton which can then be cut or torn oil". In this way the cotton roll is held so as to be readily accessible, and at the same time it is plrlotected from dirt and from the atmosere. p Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent,- i,
1. A holder for raw cotton, comprising a body having a movable lid and having means for attaching the same'to a support,
said body having a wall with an opening therethrough, a door for said opening, resilient means tending toclose said door, and an outer cover normally covering said opening and said door.
2. A cotton holder having a body with a the same to a support, said body having an opening in the `forward wall thereof, a-door having resilient hinges tending to close the same, and a dishedcover attached to said forward wall and normally closing over said door and covering the protruding extremity of the cotton.
means for attaching In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this speciiication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
