UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES ROBB, OF LEWISTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA.
lMPROVEM ENT IN PLOW-FASTENING DEVICES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 9,332. dated October 12, 1852.
Figure-l is a perspective view of the plow.
Fig. 2 is a side view, looking toward the interior of the mold-board, with the landside, reversibie share, wedge F, and colter removed, the position of the bar-point being seen in red I Fig.3is an interior side view of the landside detached; Fig. 4., an inverted plan or under view of a portion of the plow; Fig. 5, a" similar view, showing the reversible share E removed; Fig. 6, a detachedface view of the share, and Fig. 7 a perspective view of the wedge F.
Thesame letters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several figures.-
face j also, a stud, II, and book 0 on the same side. This stud and hook, when the landside is fitted to the plow, drop into recesses d 0, made in a projecting interior. flange, B, of the mold-hoard. 0, against which flange the landside sits, and is held by the hook c hooking within the edge or lip of the recess e, and is further held by the reversible bar-point D, when driven to its place, as will be hereinafter described. The flange B projects, so as to form a recess or groove, f, hfetween it and the mold-board, and the said flange at its lower and front extremity is provided with a lip, g, bending inward, and stud h, projecting also inward.
The mold-board, on itslower edge and at that part forming the opposite side of the groove f to the flange B, has headed or lipped studs it,
for holding on the reversible share E, which is further held by a tightening-wedge, F, having a lip, m.
i The reversible share has holes in it for the entrance through of the studs 1 i and an opening, 1-, from which shoot branches at, for the passage of the lip m through and its bite over the under face of the share.
D is the bar-point, which is of any desirable len gth'and sharp at both ends. It also is made with notches on either side, any one of which notches is designed to receive the lip 9, so that the bar-point may be reversed or, as it wears, placed farther in advance.
H is the colter or cutter. Itis held between the moid-boa'rd and landside, which act as clamps to secure it. It also may be reversed to provide against wear.
To put these several parts together'the landside A is fitted to the flange B of the moldboard by inserting the book a into the recess 0, the colter being dropped in its place between thelandside and mold-board. The bar-point D is then slid along the groove f, it bearing on its lower. side or face within and against the point-flange a and stud h, thereby retaining and tightening the landside to its booked attachment in the recess 6. When the bar-point is at its proper position along the groove f it is pressed in toward the flange B, so that one of the. notches on its side will be made to. receive the lip g, which prevents the bar-point from being forced out of place when set. The wedge F is next placed in the groove f alongside the bar-point, and so that the opening r and either one of the branchesn (according to which side of the share is uppermost) of the share E will receive therethrough the lip m, the share being seated to the mold-board by the studs '5 i entering through openings in the. former, the said studs being slightly headed or lipped on their end, so as to lap over the edges of the holes they pass through in the share,'and, when the wedge F is driven home, serving to hold the share to the mold-board. The wedge F is then driven inward from the front till the lip m bites tight on the share by its lap over the back edge of the branch n it fits.
Now it will be seen that the landside, reversible share, and bar-point are or may be held in their place without either screw, bolt, ornut. Theyconsequently are lessliableto get loose, are firmer, and more simply put together,
y sire ,to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Holding the share E to its nlace by a tightwing-wedge, F,.ha ving a lip, m, for lap or bite on the share, in conjunction with the headed orlipped studsiifor further securing the same.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my m me before two subscribing Witnesses.
