LAMP-BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 31, 1909.
Application filed April 17, 1909. Serial No. 490,449.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES H. DUNN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fordyce, in the county of Dallas and State of Arkansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in LHHlP-BUIIIGFS, of which the followii'lg is a specification.
This invention relates to lamp burners, the object in view being to provide in connection with a lamp chimney, formed with a swell or head around the lower portion thereof, a burner body embodying novel means including a chimney retaining band adapted to be sprung around the chimney above said swell or head, thereby preventing said chimney from being knocked olf the lamp burner or falling therefrom when the lamp is inclined at an angle.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as herein fully described, illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a side elevation of a burner embodying the present invention, showin a chimney held thereon, said chimney Eeing partly broken away in section. Fig. 2 is a similar view taken from the opposite side. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the burner with the chimney removed.
The body of the burner may be of any suitable construction, said bod being indicated at 1. For the purpose 0 carrying out the present invention, the body of the burner is rovided at intervals with upstanding spring arms 2 rojecting from the outer periphery of the body or gallery of the burner upward a suitable distance, the u per ends of said arms being bent over to orm eyes or loops 3 through which is inserted the substantially semi-circular stationary section 4 of a chimney retaining band, the remainin or complemental and movable section 5 0 which 1s also preferably semi-circular as shown in Fig. 3.
The stationary section 4 is referably formed out of a suitable length of wire, the same being ofi'set outwardly as shown at 6 where it passes through the adjacent eye or loop 3 and also havmg the opposite ends thereof offset as shown at 7 where said ends are inserted through the remaining eyes or loops 3 as shown in Fig. 3. One extremity of the stationary section 4' is formed into a loop 8 which passes through an eye 9 at the adjacent extremity of the movable section of the retaining band, thus providing a jointed and swinging connection between the movable section and the burner body. The opposite end of the stationary section 4 is bent outward and extends through an opening in the adjacent eye or loop 3 to form a projecting catch pin 10 which is adapted to enter a hole in the outwardly oilset end portion 11 of the free end of the movable section 5 of the retaining band, whereby the section 5 is securely fastened in its closed position.
The chimney 12 is formed with an annular swell or bead 13 above which the retaining band above described is adapted to engage for the purpose of securely retaining the chimney on the burner and preventing the chimney from falling or being knocked from the burner. The chimney is placed on the burner by first unfastening and o ening the jointed and swinging sectlon 5 of the band. After placing the chimney on the burner, said section 5 is then closed around the chimney above the swell or head and fastened over the catch pin 10.
I claim A lamp burner comprising a body, arms projecting upward therefrom, a chimney retaining band embodying a stationary section attached to said arms and a movable section having a jointed connection at one end with the burner, and a catch pin formed by bending and extending one extremity of the sta tionary section outward through one of said arms, the adjacent extremity of the movable member being provided with a hole to receive said catch pin, in combination with a lamp chimney formed with a swell or bead above which said band is adapted to engage.
In testimon whereof I aliix my signature in presence 0 two witnesses.
JAMES H. DUNN.
