Description

iltiml tta @amt @muy JOHN CQICURRAN, or PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
l Letters Patent No. 93,180, dated August 3, 1869.
vnvIPRovr:Mem' m nnvrcn ron Trume ISJIIRRHIIE.
' The Schedule 'referred to in these Letten Patent mak-lng part'of the same.
which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompany',`
ing drawing, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates tojan limprovement in the mode of adjusting barrels or easksof ale, wine, or other liquids; and consists in a frame combined with a screw, arranged and operated as hereinafter described.
The accompanying drawing represents a perspective view of the arrangement, showing the barrel on the frame, and the method by which the adjustment is made.
A is the barrel or cask. Y
B represents the frame, which ismade of wood, and consists of four posts, O, which are tied together by transverse rails in front and rear, marked D and E.
F represents the adjusting-screw, (which may be` made of either wood or metal,) passing up through the piece 1),*in which it acts as in a nut.
G represents' arms or hand-wheel for turning the screw.
H is a head-piece on the screw, in the upper curved side of which there are one -or more points or spurs, for penetrating the bottom side of the cask, orentering holes therein.
The forward end. of the barrel or cask rests upon the top of this head, the curve of which is designed to correspond with the circle ofthe barrel. l
J represents the top pieces of the frame, between whichvand by which the back end ofthe barrel is supported.
It will be seen that the front end of the barrel is supported by the cross-piece D.
Arranged in this manner, lit is apparent that the bar-A rel can be lowered or raised, by turning the screw, so
as to not in the least disturb the contents, thus keeping the beer, wine, or other liquid perfectly clear, and
thereby 'avoiding much waste.
- This frame may be extended in width, so as to accommodate any desired number of barrels, or barrels and casks of different sizes, the adjustment of each being made by a separate screw.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Lettersv Witnesses: y
CLARKEv HAWKINs, CHRISTOPHER Noms.
