WHEELBARROW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 10, 19.09.
Application filed August 3, 1908. Serial No. 146,672.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM HAsLUr, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Sidney, in the county of Shelby and State of- Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in, Wheelbarrows, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved wheelbarrow frame.
The object of my invention is to providea wheelbarrow with a woodtray frame "and wood hand holds, with intermediate metal connection securing the hand holds to frame in different horizontal-planes. l
It is well known that a wood frame, and particularly wood hand holds, are more dosirable and in some respects superior to a metal frame and metal hand holds. An advantage of metal construction is, however, that the tray-supporting-frame may be formed substantially horizontally and the hand holds upturned, so as to permit of the lifting of the handle end without too much tilting of the load. By my construction, I retain these combined advantages of wood and metal, and at the same time malre a very strong, durable and cheap device.
To this end my invention comprises the features set forth in the descriptionof the accompanying drawings, forming a part of 4 represents an angle iron forming the legs, adapted to hold the supports 1 in substantially horizontal position. v V
5 represents the hand-holds which are also of wood.
6 represents intermediate metal connections securing the hand holds 5 to their suports 1. As illustrated, the intermediate metal connection is preferably formed of angle iron.
By this means, the wood handles are utilized and; extending in a plane substantially coincident with the top of the tray, so that the least possible tilt of the tray is necessitated in wheeling. The simplicity, cheapness and strength of this device are obvious.
The drawing illustrates the supports 1 and hand holds connected to the metal connection by means of bolts, being the most preferable of fastenings, but the same may be made with screws, rivets or the ends of the metal connections 6 may be provided with sockets to receive the wood.
Having described my invention, I claim Y 1. A wheelbarrow frame comprising wood tray supports and wood hand holds, and an intermediate curved metal connection securing the supports and hand holds together in different horizontal planes, substantially as described.
2. A wheelbarrow frame, comprising wood tray supports and wood hand holds, with an 1 intermediate curved metal connection securing said supports and hand holds together and bent to extend the hand holds in a substantially horizontal plane with the top of the tray, substantially as described. 3. A wheelbarrow frame, comprising a pair of wood tray supports, a pair of wood hand holds, an intermediate curved metal connection securing the hand holds to the supports, said intermediate connections being curved to extend the hand holds in a substantially parallel line with the supports but indifferent horizontal planes, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
WILLIAM HASLUP.
