Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 10, 1 909.'
Application filed September 17, 1907. Serial No. 393,398.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM GEOIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Convent, Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stands, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to stands for supporting tubs, basins, or other vessels.
My invention consists of the features, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a front view of the invention. Fig. 2 a sectional view, and Fig. 3 a view of a detail, on an enlarged scale. Figs. 4:, 5 and 6 are views of details. l
The stand comprises a top made up of side bars or rails, 1, and standards 2, to which these rails are connected, said standards crossing each other and being connected together at their point of crossing. In order to provide a frame of a knockdown character, I provide a socket on the standards of one of the members of the frame, said socket being formed in the material of the standard, or in a plate which is attached thereto, said socket consisting of a circular portion 3 and an elongated slot portion at extending to an opening at 5 at the edge of the standard. The standards of the other member of the frame are provided with projections of elongated rectangular form, as shownat 6 adapted to pass through the narrow slot or mouth I of the sockets when the members of the frame are in collapsed position and then upon spreading the frame members into the position shown in Fig. 1, the elongated rectangular studs will turn in the enlarged portions of the sockets 3 and thus the two members of the frame will be securely locked together. In order to hold the fame in this extended position, I pro vide braces 7 pivoted to the standards of one of the members and having hooked endsat S to engage pins 9 of the standards of the other member of the frame.
My invention belongs to the type of stand devised by me and disclosed in an application for Letters Patent of the United States filed Aug. 8/07, #387692, in which a stand is combined with a shelf supported intermediate of the height of the said stand and adapted to hold a tub, basin, or other vessel, i
B. Ln Boonor the stand may be used for supporting.
trays and the shelf for supporting dishes, or for other purposes. In the present form of my invention I may either support this shelf removably on the frame, as indicated in the drawing at 10, by having the said shelf rest upon cross bars, 11, of the frame members, being held against lateral displacement thereon by the lugs or sockets 12, or if desired the shelf may be pivoted to one of the frame members so as to fold in relation thereto and it may when extended simply rest upon one of the bars 11 of the other frame member. Such a pivoted arrai'lgement of the shelf is illustrated in Fig. 4. When it is desired to pack the frame in knockdown condition it is simply necessary to disconnect the braces or hooks '7, then collapse the frame members so that the elongated rectangular studs 6 will be turned so as to pass through the narrow portions at of the sockets in the other frame member, whereupon the two frame members are separated from each other and may then be compactly arranged together with the shelf and this shelf may either be entirely removable or as above stated pivotally connected to one of the frame members.
The pivot connection between the standards may be formed as shown in Fig. 3 wherein the socket is provided with shoulders at 13 for the elongated stud to rest against when turned to thus limit the spreading movement of the parts, in which case the braces 7 may be dispensed with.
I claim as my invention:
In combination the parallel top members, crossing standards, one set of said standards having sockets with reduced mouth portions leading therefrom inclined in respect to the edge of the standard and opening through said edge, and the other set of standards \VILLIAM B. LE BOURGEOIS.
