SCRUBBING-MACHIN E Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern: 1
Be it known that I, OTTO H. VETITT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Frazee, in the county of Becker, State of l-dinnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scrubbingdxiachines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to a scrubbing machine and more particularly to wheeled scrubbing machines.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a scrubbing machine comprising a wheeled frame, a water tank mounted thereon, and a rotary scrubbing brush actuated by the wheels of the frame for cleaning floors or the like.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a scrubbing machine comprising a Wheeled frame having a rotary scrubber actuated by the same, yieldable means having rollers adapted to contact with the floor to hold the frame in a proper position for maintaining the scrubber in contact with the work such as a floor, and a receptacle carried by the frame and adapted to discharge water in advance of the scrubber.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a wheeled scrubbing machine having a rotary scrubber, yieldable means supporting rollers adapted to contact with a floor or the like to hold the machine in its proper working position and a shiftable handle connected to the frame of the ma chine whereby the latter can be moved in opposite directions without turning the same.
With these and other ends in view the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and brought out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which disclose the preferred form of embodiment of the invention. It is to be understood however, that changes, variations and modifications may be made such as come properly within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
In the drawings, the numeral 5 designates the main frame having a broad elongated base 6 arranged at its opposite ends with dopending brackets 7 provided with ournal bearings 8 in which is rotatably mounted an axle 9 havingfixed thereto at opposite ends wheels 10 provided with rubber tires 11 and adapted to support the main frame. The said rubber tires 1 1 being provided to prevent the slipping of the machine when the same is traversechover a floor or the like.
Fixed centrally on the axle 9 is a beveled gear 12 the latter in mesh with a beveled pinion 13 carried at the inner end of a vertical spindle 14 rotatably supported in the cross piece 15 of a U-shaped bracket 16 having its legs secured centrally to opposite side edges of the base 6 of the main frame. Secured to the spindle 14 is a rotary brush head 17 having relatively stiff bristles 18 forming the scrubber.
Mounted upon the main frame by securing straps 19 is a bowed spring 20 having its ends projecting forwardly and rearwardly of the said main frame, the opposite terminals of the spring being bifurcated to form spaced extensions 21 the same being curled to form bearings 22 in which are journaled stud spin dles or axles 23 having rotatably mounted thereon rollers 24 which latter are positioned between the extensions 21 and adapted to contact with a floor or the like to hold the main frame in a horizontal position and thus maintain the scrubber in its working relation with respect to the floor or the like.
Projecting outwardly from opposite sides of the brackets 7 are studs 25 having con nected thereto the branch arms 26 of a handle 27 which latter is gripped by an operator to move or advance the machine over a floor or the like.
Suitably positioned on the base 6 of the main frame is a water receptacle or tank 28 having a removable cover 29 and provided with faucets 30 at opposite sides thereof so as to discharge its contents such as water a distance in advance of the scrubber when the machine is in operation.
It is apparent that by having the arms 26 of the handle 27 pivotally connected to the studs 25 on the main frame the said handle can be shifted after advancing the machine over a predetermined course to reverse the direction of the machine Without the turning thereof.
The operation of the machine is obvious and therefore a full description of the same is omitted.
What is claimed is 1. A machine of the class described comprising a Wheeled frame, a rotary scrubber, gear mechanism actuated by the Wheels of the frame to impart movement to the scrubber, and rollers yieldably supported by the main frame to hold the same in proper Working position.

A machine of the class described comprising a main frame, brackets depending from the main frame and provided with journal bearings, an axle mounted in said bearings, Wheels fixed to said axle and having rubber tires, a beveled gear fixed to said axle, a bracket fixed centrally to the main frame, a spindle supported by the bracket, a pinion fixed to the spindle and in mesh with the gear, a scrubber connected to said spindle, means yieldably connected to the main frame for supporting the same in proper Working position, and a shiftable handle carried by the main frame.
