SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 570,610, dated November 3, L1896.

Be it known that I, GUsTAv ScHocK, a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Keg-Scrubbing Machines, of which the following is a specication.
My invention relates to keg-scrubbing machines; and it-has for its object to produce a simple, cheap, and eective machine which will thoroughly scrub kegs, barrels, and the like.
To this end my invention consists in the construction hereinafter set forth and claimed.
My invention will be understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a side elevation of a keg-scrubbin g machine embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof, and Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 2 to more clearly show the construction and mode of operation.
In the drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate like parts, A is the framework of the machine, on which is journaled a pair of shafts B and C. Brackets D E are provided, which are adjustable up and down in the frame. These brackets support pivoted brush-carriers G H, which are horizontally adjustable in the brackets and support brushes I J, which brushes serve to cleanse or scrub the ends of the keg, as will be pointed out.
Mounted in the framework A is a verticallysliding cross -bar K to which is pivoted a brush L, the pivot Z serving to form the connection between the brush and cross-bar. The cross-bar slides in ways c c in the frame and is connected to pivoted link-adjusting mechanism comprising the rock-shafts b c and the system of links d e f g, and the handle 71 and likewise the system of links c' j combined with the rock-shafts b and c and the handle k. A sleeve M is rigidly connected with and carried upon the shaft B, and has secured or mounted thereto eccentric wheels N O, the highest portion of the eccentric wheel N being opposite to the lowest portion of the eccentric wheel O, as indicated in dotted' lines in Fig. 3. The shaft C is similarly provided with a sleeve M', upon which eccentric wheels N' O are carried in a like manner to the wheels N O.
It will be observed that by mounting the eccentric disks upon the sleeves M M in the manner indicated the relationship of the disks connected with each sleeve cannot be altered even if the position of a sleeve upon one of the shafts is altered, and that a strong connection between the disks is provided. The shaft B derives its motion from a pulley P and earries a sprocket-wheel Q, which is geared with a similar sprocket-wheel R, carried by the shaft C, by a sprocket-chain or positive con# nection S.
The operation of my device is as follows: A keg or barrel, as shown at X in dotted lines, is rested upon the wheels or rollers N O N O', and the brushes are adjusted up to the keg. The shaft B is thereupon rotated, which rotates the wheels N O N O': The kegs being carried on these wheels and the shafts being positively geared together, it follows that the keg will be given a motion of translation by being raised, rst one end of the keg and then the other, by reason of the eccentric mounting of the wheels, and that in addition to this motion of translation or oscillation of the keg the same is caused to revolve. Thus a very efficient and thorough scrubbing of the keg will take place.
It will be seen that by my invention I provide a simple, cheap, and efficient keg-scrubbin g m achine wherein the pivoted end brushes I J automatically adjust themselves to the keg irrespective of the positionof the keg upon the rolls, and that the pressure ofthe brush L against the keg may be increased or decreased at will. It will also be observed that the arrangement of the parts in the machine allows of the keg being readily placed in position and removed from the machine.
What I claim, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is-
In a keg-scrubbing machine, the combination of a framing pivoted end brushes freely movable around the pivots thereof and horizontally and vertically adjustable in said framing, 'shafts B, C, 'eceentrically-mounted rollers N, O, N', O', carried upon said shafts, the highest portions of the eccentric wheels IOO upon the shafts at one end being opposite to the lowest portion of the eccentric Wheels at the opposite end, a pivoted vertically-adj ustable brush freely movable around its pivot, said bru sh being mounted in said framing between the eccentric wheels and on a lower plane than the side brushes, and toggle mechanism for adjusting' said brush vertically and
