To all whomit may concern Be it known that I, FRANK PETERsoiv, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Lyndon, in the county of VVhatcom and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scrubbing Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in scrubbing machines and has for its object provided for this purpose and carried by the machine. "Means are also provided for increasing or diminishing the friction of the scrubbing'brush upon the floor by tilting the machine frame forward or backward.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be herein after fully described in the following specification, pointed out in the claim and illus-.
trated in the accompanying drawings which form a part of said specification and in which Figure 1 is a plan of my improved scrubbing machine. Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the machine.

The frame of my machine comprises the sides 1, 1 connected to each other by the transverse braces 2 and mounted upon traction wheels 3 which are connected by axles 4, 4. Upon one of the axles 4 a roller 5 is disposed over which an endless moppingcloth 6 passes adapted for contact with the floor and which cloth also passes-overw a small roller 7 disposed near the rear end of the.
frame and up through the wringer 8, the rollers of which are mounted upon shafts journaled in the sides ofthe frame. Immediately beneath the wringer 8 a tank 9 is disposed and supported by cleats 10 secured to the sides of the frame and said tank is adapted to receive the water squeezed from the mopping-cloth by the said wringer. In the frame of the machine a reservoir 11 is supported in a suitable manner and said reservoir contains the water to be used to scrub the floor and the same is provided with a faucet 12 through which the water is conducted to a sprayer 13 supported by the frame of the machine at the front end of the same above the rotary scrubbing brush 14 which is supplied with water by said sprayer and which brush scrubs the floor as the machine is drawn over the same by a handle 15 secured to casings 16, 16 carried by the machine and said casings inclose vertical racks 17, 17 located nearer the rear than the front of the machine, each of which carries a shoe 18. Each rack 17 meshes with a cog wheel 19 secured to the frame upon a crank shaft 20 provided with a crank 21 by which said cog wheel is rotated and a dog 22 secured to the frame 1 ,is adapted for engagement with said cogiwheel whereby the same is locked in an adjusted position. The effect of lowering the racks 17 by means of the cogs 19 is to raise the rear wheels of the machine off the floor and depress the front end of the machine increasing the friction of'the brush 14: upon the floor thus scrubbing the floor more thoroughly; another advantage of this arrangement is to prolong the use of the scrubbing brush as a worn brush can in this manner be brought "in' working contact with the floor even disposed upon an axle 4 of the traction wheels.
