The upper ends of the frame being entirely open. The frame the plates 22 are provided with. lateral which at its lower end 4that by providing anges that have inserted therethrough bolts or other suitable fastening elements 26.
I provide a tank 27 that is secured upon 'the wall 4 and disposed within the frame 1. A depending vdischarge pipe 2S is carried by tank 27 and at its lower end is connected with a discharge nozzle 29 that is preferably formed with a number of perforations so as to emit a tine spray of liquid. Any number of these nozzles 29 and pipes 28 may be provided. A valve 30 is carried by the pipe 28 so as to cut otf the supply to the nozzle. Water or a cleaning fluid of any kind may be carried within the tank 27 and it is preferable to arrange the nozzle 29 in the rear of the brushing members and in alinement therewith. A filling tube or pipe 31 is eX- tended upwardly through the top. Wall 4 and the cap 32 is removably mounted upon said pipe 31.
I provide a handle for guiding or pushing the device designated 33. This handle is pivoted as at 35 to the side walls 2 bf the frame 1 and is provided with a grip portion 35.
Fixed upon the shaft upon which the pinion 11 is mounted is a pulley 36 u on which is mounted a belt 37. The belt 3 is also mounted upon the pulley 38 that is carried upon the shaft 39 of a rotary suction pump 40. The pump 40 is carried by the top wall 4 in depending relation thereto at a point rearwardly of the motor 1U. Connected with the pump 40 and extending downwardly toward the floor is a suction pipe 41 is connected to` and carries an elongated suction pan 42. This pan 42 is of such'length as to cover the area of floor surface operated upon by the scrubbingmembers 17 and is provided for the drying of the door by sucking the moisture upwardly through the pipe 41 to the pump 40. A tank 43 iscarried in any suitable manner interiorly of the upon one side wall thereof and a pipe 44 connects the tank 43 with the ump 40. Theinoisture or liquid'sucked or rawn upwardly by the pan 42 and pipe 41 and pump 40 is forced' through the pipe 44 into the tank 43 from whencel it may be drawn by suitable means not shown'. It will be seen a suction pan 42 to cover the expanse of floor which has been scrubbed that a drying of the floor may be quickly and reliably edected.
In operation, assuming that the motor 10 is operated the shaft 7 is rotated and propels the device. By means of the gears 16 and 16Br the crank shaft 15 isrrotated and the rods 20 and 21. VThe rods 24 'members 17 in .their reciprocal movements so-{that effective and expeditious scrubbing or polishing action is had. If desired the a reciprocatory movement to the 16 and 17 through the medium of guide the imp arts v members frame 1 preferably brushes 19 may bc removed and polishing elements not shown, placed within the holder 18. The surface being treated may be sprayed `with the liquid within the tank 27 and a thorough polishing or tion is thus provided. By means of the handle 33 the device may be guided in the proper direction and in view of the fact that the rollers 5 are arranged at the four corners of the rectangular frame, the device is supported evenly and in such manner that the brushes or scrubbing elements will move smoothly and not cause the surface being treated to become streaked or injured in any manner.
By means of the suction pan 42 and the operating means therefor it will be seen that the iioor will be dried in an effective manner and that all wet lint and other foreign matter will be removed from the floor. A drain cock 45 is provided for the tank 43 and extends through one of the side walls of the frame 1 as shown clearly in Fig. 3.
With reference to the foregoing description and accompanying drawings, it will be observed that I have provided a compact and easily operable machine that will operate in a reliable and effective manner to clean or polish a wide strip of floor surface in such manner that injury or streaking of the surface is prevented.
In practice, have found that the form of my invention, illustrated in the drawings and referred to in the' above description, as the preferred embodiment, is the most eficient and practical; yet realizing that the conditions concurrent with the adoption of my device will necessarily vary, I desire to emphasizethe fact that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, when required, without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention, as set forth.
