Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 27, 1909.
Application filed July 24, 1908. Serial No. 445,152.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS H. BLACK- NALL, citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Hangers; and I do hereby declarethe following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a novel construction in a display hanger adapted for use in stores and show windows to display goods and cards bearing the price thereof, the obj ect being to provide a simple, cheap and efficient device of this character and consists in the features of construction hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating my invention: Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a display hanger constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the blank constituting my hanger before forming the latter.
My invention has for its primary object to provide a display hanger which is adapted to engage and en port the goods to be displayed and support t e price ticket above the same.
My invention consists in providing a display hanger consisting of a single piece of metal and comprising a pair of spring clamping jaws at one end of the device, a hook at the other end, and a pair of projections disposed on either side of the shank portion of the hook and distorted to extend slightly forward of the same to provide a three point support for a display card, the single piece of metal used in the construction enabling me to make the device at very low cost and rendering the same more durable and less liable to disorder than a similar device assembled of different parts.
In the drawings the blank shown consists of a tongue A, an oppositely disposed tongue B having a serrated free end and formed by cutting a U-shaped incision C in the blank, said incision simultaneously forming the inner wall of a U-shaped loop D the free end of which is also serrated. Two short tongues E are disposed on either side of the tongue A and opposite the arms of the loop D. The blank thus formed is then bent as follows:
The tongue A is bent over at its free end portion to form the hook F. The tongue B and loop D are bent to S-shape but the ogee curves oppose each other respectively thereby forming opposed jaws G and H, the serrated free ends of which interfit while the loops thereof adjacent their juncture with the middle portion of the device constitute springs for normally maintaining the said serrated free ends of said jaws in contact with each other. The tongues E are distorted to protrude slightly forward of the shank portion of the hook F. The device is now complete and in operation the loops I of the jaws G and H are pressed toward each other to open said jaws and insert an edge of the article to be displayed. A price ticket J is then inserted between opposing faces of the tongues E and the shank portion of the hook F respectively. The device is then hung on a rope or other supporting device K.
. My said display hanger 15 not only efiicient but presents a very neat appearance and is easily and quickly operated.
I claim as my invention:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a display hanger consisting of a sheet metal plate terminating at one end in a pair of opposed jaws, the shanks of said jaws being ogee curved and passing each other between their ends.
2. As a new article of manufacture a display hanger consisting of a single piece of sheet metal terminating at one end in opposed jaws, the inner end portions of said jaws being ogee curved and passing each other between their ends, said inner end portions constituting springs maintaining the free end portions thereof normally in contact with each other.
3. As a new article of manufacture a display hanger consisting of a single piece of metal terminating at one end in a U-shaped loop and a tongue bent in respectively op posed relation in ogee curves constituting opposed spring jaws, the free ends thereof being maintained normally in relative contact.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name in the presence of two subscribing wit-
