Description
3111104 koz Patented July 20,1909.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY W. STUART, OF FERNBANK, OHIO.
ENVELOP.
To all whom 'it concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY W. STUART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fernbank, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Envelops, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in envelops.
The object of my invention is to produce an envelop formed of a single blank, with side and end flaps, three of which are glued together to form the envelop, the fourth flap remaining as an end tuck, so that the con tents of the envelop can be examined, thus forming a third-class mail envelop.
I am aware that envelops of this general description have been before patented, but I have improved the structure so as to make it stronger and more durable and yet retaining the appearance of the ordinary envelop.
The features of my invention are more fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the blank. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the envelop.
The blank is formed with a body section 1, the outside of which forms the addressing face of the envelop.
3 represents the bottom end flap first folded in upon the body section.
2 represents the right side flap, next folded in and pasted to the adjacent edge of Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 5, 1909.
Patented July 20, 1909.
Serial No. 488,126.
flap 8. 4 represents the other side flap, which for a portion of its length from bottom to top conforms to the conventional envelop glue flap design 5, and it is glued down upon the flaps 2 and 3. The upper end 6 of this flap 4; is widened out to extend approximately across the top open end of the envelop so as to give a wide line of attachment reinforcing this open end.
7 represents the tuck flap of triangular form adapted to be inserted into the open end of the envelop formed by the body 1 and the flaps 3 and 5.
The envelop thus formed is neat, strong, readily opened and closed, and yet resembles the conventional first-class mail envelop.
Having described my invention, I claim An envelop for third-class mail comprising the body section with two sides and two end flaps, one of the end flaps being free and the others glued together with reference to the body section to form an envelop, the outer of the side glue flaps conforming in the major portion of its length to the design of the glue flap of a conventional envelop, and formed with a V-notch near its upper end, said upper end adjacent the tuck flap, extending substantially across the open endof the envelop.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand.
HENRY W. STUART. Witnesses:
OLIVER B. KAISER, EMMA SPENER.
