To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY M. R. GLovER, a citizen of Canada, having filed first papers and having declared my intentions of becoming a citizen of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Adapters for Photographicilm Packs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in adapters for packages of daylight loading films, and has for its object to provide a simple and cheap but durable adapter or holder for the packages of films.
In the art of photogra hy, adapters of the general character are well known, and applicant is aware of the fact that there are certain forms of adapters comprising a holder having a chamber for the reception of a package of light-proof films, which chamber on one side is rovided with an exposure opening and slice, and on the other side is provided with a back adapted to be locked to the holder, and forming therewith a container for the ackage of films.
One of the 0 j ects of applicants invention, however, is to provide a very simple adapter, practically comprising one member having no movable parts other than the slide and the locking means for holding the package of films in place.
Other advantageous features will appear from the following description, and the particular oints of novelty will be pointed out in the c aims.
\Vhile the invention is not restricted to the exact details shown and described, still for the purpose of disclosure reference is had to the accompanying drawings illustrating a practical embodiment of the invention, in
which like characters designate the same parts in both views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view looking at the rear of the adapter with the package of films removed and the locking means disposed in the unlatched osition, Fig. 2 is a similar view with a pac age of films locked in place, and Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective view of a modified form.
As in the ordinary plate holder, the
adapter comprises a frame having an eX- posure opening represented by the edge 1, and an opaque slide 2 for closing the same. The rear of the frame is 0 en and is provided with the side walls 3, of ess thickness than the longitudinal base strips 4, forming therewith the ledge 5, and together with the up per and lower walls 6 and 7, forming a compartment or chamber for the rece tion of the films. The top plate 8, preferab y of metal, as shown, is of such a width as to leave a space 9 between its rear edge and the rear edges of the side walls 3, and the bottom plate, which is also preferably of metal, may
e of angle construction having a base 10 and a rear side 11 forming with the wall 7 a pocket 12 for the reception of the butt-end of the package of films, the space 9 between the rear edge of the plate 8 and the rear edges of the side walls 3 forming a space for receiv ing the rojecting tabs 13 on the film aprons, as clear y shown in Fig. 2.
At the top of the adapter the side walls 3, at their rear edges, are cut away to form the depressions 14, in which are mounted the members 15, preferably slotted as at 16, to receive the headed screws 17, forming sliding members provided at their upper ends with the offset portions 18, ada ted to engage the rear of the package of fims or a metallic strip 19 on the rear of the package of films, as more clearly shown in Fig. 2. The depressed or cut-away portions 14 are of such a length as to receive the sliding members, so that when the sliding members or catches are in their locked positions, as shown in Fig. 2, the end of the catch will rest against the shoulder 20 with the upper screw 17 engaging the upper end of the slot, and in the reverse direction the movement of the sliding members 15 will be limited by the lower sprews 17 engaging the lower ends of the s ots.
In the modified form shown in Fig. 3, the construction is substantially similar to a certain extent, but in that construction the sliding members 15 are mounted on top of the metallic plate 8, and are provided with the lateral extensions 15', having the down wardly bent portions 15 and inwardly extending offsets 18. These sliding members are of course slotted as in the other construction, 17 a designating headed pins passing through the slot and riveted to the plate 8. In this construction, of course the cut-away portions corresponding to the recess portions 14 are of less length, simply suficient to take in the bent portion 15 By the constructions described, it will readily be seen that there is provided a very simple and eflective adapter requiring no hinged plate or other backing for holding a package of films locked in position.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is 2- 1. A film pack adapter comprising a frame having an exposure opening, a closure therefor and an open compartment, for the reception of a film ack, at the rear of said closure; and a movab e latching member operating to directly engage and secure the film pack in said ada ter, substantially as described.
2. A fi lm pack adapter comprising a frame having an exposure opening, a closure therefor and an open compartment, for the reception of a film pack, at the rear of said closure, said frame having a movable latch mounted thereon provided with an internal ofi'set operating to directly engage and secure the film pack in said adapter, substantially as described.
3. A film pack adapter, comprising a frame having an exposure opening, a closure therefor and an open compartment, for the reception of a film pack, at the rear of said closure, said frame having sliding latches mounted thereon provided with internal ottsets 0 crating to directly engage and secure the fil in ack in said adapter, substantially as descri ed.
4. A film pack adapt-er comprising a frame having an exposure opening, a closure therefor and an open compartment, for the reception of a film pack, at the rear of said closure, said frame being provided with a bottom plate comprising an angle member forming with said frame a pocket for the rece tion of the butt end of the film pack, and atching means for directly securing the upper end of the film pack Within said open compartment, substantially as described.
5. A film pack adapter comprising a frame having an exposure opening and a closure therefor, said frame having top, bottom and side walls forming an open compartment for the reception of a film pack, the bottom Wall of said frame providing means for securing the butt-end of said film ack within said compartment; and sliding atches mounted at the upper end of said frame and. having in wardly-disposed offsets, and said offsets being formed by extensions substantially parallel to the main portion of the sliding latches and connected thereto by webs, which. connecting webs, when the latches are in their locked position, lie substantially in the plane of the side walls of the compartment an d substantially in alinement with the edges of the film pack when inserted, substantially as described.
