CABINET FOR CLOTHES-RACK ARMS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 13, 1909.
Application filed. March 23, 1908. Serial No. 422,764.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADRIAN A. TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lincoln, in the county of Lancaster and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cabinets for Clothes-Rack Arms, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to cabinets for co11- taining elongated articles such as the arms of knockdown clothes racks and has for its object the improvement of the cabinet by providing it with a bottom to one of the long sides of the box and supported when in an open position by flexible members to form stops for the articles but permitting them to be removed from the box by sliding them end wise.
The construction and advantages of my improved rack will be described hereinafter and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a front view of the box containing my improved rack, Fig. 2, a similar view showing the rack arms in position, Fig. 3, an end view, and Fig. l, an end view showing a modification of the arrangement of the rack arms.
In the drawings similar reference charac ters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
1 indicates a box forming the frame of my improved rack which is adapted to be secured to the wall of a room or any other suitable upright support by means of eye loops 2. The bottom 3 of the box is hinged at the back so as to swing down and be caught by chains or other flexible fastenings 4L so that the rack arms 5 may be removed by pulling them out at either end.
6 indicates hooks or other catches to secure the bottom 8 in a closed position. The
top is divided longitudinally in two pieces 7 and 8, the piece 7 nearest the back being secured to the box while the other piece 8 is hinged to piece 7. The front of the box 9 has its upper edge below the upper edges of side pieces 10 a suflicient distance to permit the arms 5 when in position to lie in a horizontal position, the notches 5" in said arms resting on the top edge of the front 9, while the rear ends of the arms rest against the piece 7.
11 indicates a strip secured under the front edge of hinged top piece 8 that covers the space between the upper edges of the sides and the upper edge of the front when the box is closed.
12 indicates books or other catches for holding the hinged top in a closed position.
In Fig. 4 is shown a modified form of device in which two or more supporting pieces 13 are secured as are the arms 5 in Figs. 2 and 3 with notches 13 to seat on the upper edge of front 9 and having notches 13 in their upper edges in which rest the rack arms 14 which are parallel with the front of the box instead of projecting therefrom as shown in the preferred form.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is- In a cabinet, at box having its bottom hinged to swing downwardly, and flexible members secured to the box and to the edge of the bottom board opposite to the hinged side and intermediate of the ends thereof to form stops for the contents of the box when the bottom is lowered.
In testimony whereof I hereto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ADRIAN A. TAYLOR.
