Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 15, 1908.
Patented July 13, 1909.
Serial No. 457,896.
To all 007mm it may concern:
Be it known that I, B'UirroN B. BENNETT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Plymouth, in the county of "ayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Games, of which the following is a specification, rcler once being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates particularly to a toy shooting apparatus, and consists in the novel construction thereof and in the peculiar arrangement and combination of the parts as more fully hereinafter set forth. 7 In the drawings illustrating myinvention, Figure 1 is a perspective view of an apparatus, showing the same in readiness for use; and Fig. 2 is a sectional perspective view illustrating the preferred construction of target.
The game in general includes the shooting apparatus proper, consisting of a plurality of targets, as A, and a suitable firearm, as B, in this instance a pop-gun,-and a box or other suitable container in which the apparatus is adapted to be packed and sold, and which also serves as a support for the target or targets, thus dispensing with a separate mount for this purpose. Any suitable box may answer as the container, and I have herein shown the preferred form, having the usual upstanding sides D on which the targets are adapted to be detachably mounted, a bottom section E, and a removable top or cover F.
The targets are sectional in construction, comprising each a lower base member, as a, slotted longitudinally thereof from the bot tom side upward to permit of its being detachably mounted upon the box side, and a target proper 6 consisting of a block section 0 hinged at its rear edge to the base, and an upstanding target proper d,-in this instance in the form of a face, which projects above the upper block and is provided with a neck section 6 that extends downwardly below the block and beside the base section, preferably in proximity to the lower edge of the base. The upstanding section or face portion forms the target proper, which is adapted to be shot at, while the depending neck section, in
addition to protecting the base portion and strengthening the hinge, serves as a handle section whereby the target when thrown downwardly by the projectile may be conveniently rocked into its operative position.
In practice, the targets are mounted as shown upon the box side and the upper sections are adapted to be thrown downwardly when hit, the target proper dropping preferably within the interior of the box.
It will be noticed in the construction described that a minimum number of parts are employed, the container itself forming the target support, so that the entire apparatus is of convenient size for handling and may be manufactured at slight cost.
What I claim as my invention is,
1. In a toy shooting apparatus, a sectional target comprising a slotted base member and a rockable target section thereon comprising a block hinged at its rear edge to the base, a llat vertical member upon the front side of the block, and a depending section projecting from the vertical member downwardly below the block in juxtaposition with the base.
2. In a toy shooting apparatus, the combination with a box, of a sectional target comprising a base member slotted to detachably engage the side of the box, a target section proper consisting of a block hinged at its rear to the base, a member secured to the front of said block, extending vertically above and below its point of attachment to the block, the upwardly-cxtending portion terminating in an enlargement forming a target section proper.
3. In a toy shooting apparatus, the combination with a box, of a sectional target comprising a base member slotted to detachably engage one side of the box and adapted to be supported by the same, and a targetcarrying section hinged at its rear to the base, and a target proper rigidly secured to the last-mentioned section.
4. In a toy shooting apparatus, the combination with a box, of a plurality of sectional targets adapted to be supported upon one side ol the box in DIGdOtOlllllllOCl relation to each other, each of said sectional targets comprising a base member slotted to detach ably engage one side of the boX, a targetcarrying section hinged to said base, and a target proper rigidly secured to the lastmentioned section.
5. In a toy shooting apparatus, the combination With a box, of a sectional target comprising a base portion slotted to detachably engage one side of the box and be supported solely by the same, and a target section proper hinged to the base member.
In testimony whereof I afix my signature in presence of tWo Witnesses.
