DISPLAY-CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 29, 1909.
Application filed August 28, 1908. Seria1 No. 450,736.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known. that I, ALEX H. SIMON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kyle, in
the county of Hays and State of Texas,'have invented'a new and useful Display-Case, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to display cases for holding cheeses whether or not the same are mounted upon cheese. cutters, and the object of the invention is to provide a case which can be readil placed over the cheese and which is provided with a movably mounted havingmeans combined therey motion will be transmitted from the door to the top so that both will open and close simultaneously, thus permitting access to be readily had to the contents of the case.
Another object is to rovide a case the top 3f which can be opener independently of the oor.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings is shown I the preferred form of the invention.
In said drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the case embodying the present improvements, said'case being shown partly open. Fig, 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectionthrough the case, the same being shown closed.
Referring to, the figures by characters of reference, 1 designates the base frame of the case, the same having side panels 2 and an end panel 3 secured thereto, said panels extending upwardly from the base frame and being fixedly connected and each of them being preferably provided with a glass 4 so that the, contents of the case can be viewed at all times. A cross strip 5is secured upon the u ..per edge of the end panel 3 and hinge 1y connected to it is the top panel Q of the case, said panel consisting of a. frame 7 having a screen 8 secured to it, said screen being preferably supported longitudinally by a cleat 9 arranged within the frame 6. The top panel is designed to normally rest by ravity upon the side panels 2 of the case and as-substantially V-shaped hangers 10 secured to the sides thereof near the hinges and provided with ofl'set eyesillr These hangers are arranged close to and between the side panels and the eye of each hanger has a chain '12 or other flexible device connected to it and extending upwardly over a supporting spool or pulley 13 mounted uponthe inner face of the side panel adjacent the upper edge thereof. The other ends of the chains 12 are attached to the inner surface of a door 14 hingedly connected at its lower edge to t 'he frame 1 between the side panels 2 and. designed to swing. upwardly against the side panels when closed. Y
The door has a suitable handle 15 fastened to it so that it can be readily manipulated; and the chains 12 are so proportioned that when the door 1 1 is swung downward the chains will pull upwardly on the lower ends of hangers 10 and thus cause the top panel 6 to swing upwardly. Obviously when the door 1 1 is closed the top panel 6 will swing downward by gravity and become seated upon the side panels 2. It will be understood that whenever the case is to be used for the purpose of protecting a cheese from insects the samecan be placed over the cheese and the device on which it is mounted and the screen 8 serves not only to keep insects away from the cheese but also serves to keep the interior of the case thoroughly ventilated. As heretofore stated by swinging the door 14 downward the top panel will be elevated and the cheese can be readily reached and a portion removed through the large opening thus produced. when the door 14; is closed the top panel 6 can be swung upwardly without causing the door to swing downwardly because of the flexible connection between the two. The device is very simple, durable, and eilicient and can be made in various sizes so as to house cheeses of different sizes and cutters or other devices on which they may be mounted.
What is claimed is: v
1. A casing having an opening at the top, bottom and one end, a closure hingedly connected to the end-of the casing, a hinged closure for the top of said casing, a hanger fixed with relation to said top closure and ex tending into the casing, and means secured at its opposite ends to the hanger and to the closure respectively and operated by the opening of-theend closure for actuating the hanger and opening the top closuref 2'. The combination with a case open at the to. bottom, and one efi; of a top panel hinge ly connected-to the case, a hanger depending therefrom, an end closure hingedly Obviously connected to the case, a flexible connection between the end closure and hanger, and a guide for said connection.
3. The combination with a case open at 5 the top, bottom, and one end of a top panel hingedlymounted upon the case, a hanger de pending therefrom, an end closure hingedly mounted upon the case, a flexible connection between said closure and the hanger and a guide wheel mounted Within the case and 10 su porting the connection.-
n testimony that I claim the foregoing as my. own, I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
