Wilma: V I V d MAE JOHN K. DRUTTMAN,
OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
GARMENT. SUPPOR'IER on HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent. p
Patented we 22, 1909.
Application filed April 8, 1909. Serial No. 488,669.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN KETOHUM DRUTT- MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment Supporters or Hangers, of which the following is a specification, reference being-had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to garment hangers, and has specially in view a device of the character described which may efficiently and.
compactly support a plurality of articles of wearing ap arel in such a manner that their shape may e retained.
In carrying out the object of the invention generally stated above it is contemplated forming the han er of a single length of wire and providing t e same with a sus ending hook at one end and its other. end with coat hangers the outer ends of which are suitably braced by means of a connection with end arms, the inner ends of said coat hangers being braced *by means of the body of the hanger, said. end arms being provided with detachable hangers for supporting trousers and the like" in a properly stretched manner.
It willbe understood of course, that the essential features of the invention involved in carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above are necessarily susceptible of chan es in details and structural arran ements, ut certain preferred and practica embodiments thereof are shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure,- 1 is a perspective view of the im proved garment hanger. Fi 2 is a detail V16W of a modified form of ham er clip for supporting trousers or the like. ig. 3 is an end elevation of the hanger shown in Fig. 1.
Referrin to said accompanying drawings by numera s,'1 designates the supporter'in its entirety which is. referably formed of a single length of wire onbled and twisted to form a straight bod portion 2 one end of.
which is bent into t e form of a hook 3.by means of which the device may be sus ended.- The end of said hook 3 is arrange in the form of an open loop 4 and projects at right angles to the bod 1 to form a'support for a hat or other artic e of wearing apparel. Intermediatethe hook-shaped, end of the body 1, the material of which the device is formed is projected outwardly at right angles to said body'to provide oppositely projecting arms 5 or strengthening purposes and whose ends are in the form of loops or rings 6 which may be used for holding various articles of wearing apparel, such as hats or the like. The said body 1 is also provided with another pair of arms adjacent to its base, said arms being designated by the numeral 6 and being oppositely disposed and projecting at right angles to said body. The said arms 6 are composed of twisted material adjacent their junction with the body 1 and their outer portion is in the form of a flat widened and sloping loop 7. The two menu-- bers of the length of material of which 'the hanger is formed diverge at the base of said body and are arranged in a straight plane and project at right angles to form oppositely dis osed base members 10 and 10, the outer en of which are each provided with an eye 11 formed by twisting the end of each arm about the outer end of the loops 7, thereby mutually bracing themselves and also said arms 6, as will be understood.
A hanger clip is detachably mounted on each arm or member 1010 said cli being formed from sheet metal and provide with a hook at one end, designated by the numeral 12 which is adapted to engage over said members or arms. The body'13 of saidclip is slitted longitudinally to provide vertical e s 14, the ends of which are in the form of upturned hooks 15. Said legs are provided with a transverse intermediate bend 16 which permits their hook sha ed ends to be retained in a slightly s reac -apart position.
In Fig. 2 a modi ed form of hanger clip is pro osed, the same being formed of a single en th of wire or the like, which is bent upon itse f at one end to form a s ring hook 17 for detachable en agement wit the arms 10-10", and its si 6 legs being provided with spread-apart hook-shaped ends 18.
The described hanger clips are especially adapted for suspending trousers from the hanger, and it w1l1 be seen that the types of clips described will engage with the buttons osite sides, and thereby of trousers on opp f to assure 0 hold the trousers in a manner their shape being retained.
It will be seen from the foregoing description that the hanger will efficiently support a plurality of garments without inter erin with their shape and as the same is formed of a single length of material, such as wire,
the cost of production is very'low. It will also be seen that the arms 6 which are provided with the widened flat sloping end loops ma be used for holding coats and the like so that the shoulder portions thereof will be retained in shape, and as said arms are supported or braced at both ends, they are cap able of sustaining considerable weight.
What I claim as my invention is I. A device of 'the character described com rising a'body portion having a suspends lng 00k at one en intermediate arms projecting from said body and provided with supporting loops at their outer ends, coat supporting arms projecting from the base portion of said body, oppositely projecting ase members carried by said body and having their outer ends connected with said coat supporting arms, and a hanger clip detachably mounted on each base member.
2. A device of the character described formed of a single length of material twisted to form a body ortion having a suspending hook at one end. and rovided with spaced apart pairs of arms t e members of which are oppositely disposed, said body terminating in oppositely projecting base members the free ends of which are connected with the outer ends of the lower air of arms, and hanger clips detachably an slidably mounted on said base members.
3. A device of the character described formed of a single length of material and having a straight twisted bod ortion spaced-apart pairs of arms integral with and projecting at ri ht angles to said body, the members of sai airs being oppositel disposed, a sus ending hook integral wit 1 one end-of said ody and terminating in a sup porting loop, the other end of said body terminating in oppositely disposed right-angular members, and a hanger clip supported on each of said angular members.
4. A device of the character described comprising a twisted body, arms projecting comprising a body formed of a single length of wire bent and twisted to form a suspendmg hook at one end, two pairs of arms projectlng at right angles from said body, and
base members the outer ends of which are provided with eyes which engage with the ends of the lowermost pairs of arms.
6. A device of the character described comprising a body, oppositely projecting arms carried by the lower portion of said body and having reinforced inner portions and fiat widened and sloping loop-shaped ends, and brace members carried by the said body and having their outer ends connected with loops of said arms.
7. A device of the character described comprising a body provided with suspending means, arms integral with and projecting from opposite sides of said body, said arms having a twisted inner portion and flat l0opshaped sloping outer portions, and brace rod s integral with said body for supporting the outer ends of said arms.
In testimony whereof I hereunto allix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN K. DRUTTMAN.
