UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMIL NEUMEISTER, OF LAHR, GERMANY.
BINDING DEVICE To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL NnUMnis'rER, a subject of the Grand Duke of Baden, Germany, residing at Lahr, in Baden, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Binding Devices, of which 5 the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a quick binding device adapted to hold a great amount of papers or written matter and to retain them in a safe and easily accessible manner. The binding is elastic so that even when the binder is very full there is no need to fear that the papers will be pulled out or fall out from the backing.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
The binder consists of a cover or backing a and the fastening device which comprises the elastic band 0 and the plates 0, these latter being pointed at their ends. .Vhen papers are to be inserted or removed from the binding the plates 0 are raised to a position perpendicular to the surface of the paper and it is evident that if there are only a few sheets in the binder the plates will stand up of themselves in this position, while when the binder is empty they must be held in this position.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 9, 1907.
Patented June 15, 1909.
Serial No. 396,647.
Owing to the elasticity of the band I) any desired number of sheets can be bound in, while the bands may be extended or shortened by cutting or adding pieces if required so that the capacity of the binder is variable within very wide limits. When a large number of sheets are to be bound in it is desirable to provide the plates 0 with an extension at one side as is shown in the drawing.
Having thus described my invention I declare what I claim is:
In a quick binding device, the combination with the cover, the bottom flap thereof having a pair of holes therein, a pair of oval shaped plates adapted to be threaded through said holes, each plate having a pair of holes near one end, and an elastic band formed of an endless loop, said band passing upwardly through one hole in each plate and downwardly through the other hole so as to connect the two plates together.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
