Application filed November To all whom. it may concern? 3e it known that i, FREDERZCA W. -HOLD, citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Vernon, in the county of i festchester and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Ventilating-Sash and vi indowdioeking Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to means for holding window-sashes in partially open positions as well as to permit of a limited movement of either or both sashes, so that an opening may be had at the top and bottom of the window, if desired, and thus it provides for the ventilation of apartments, while at all times affording absolute security from intrusion.

The device is intended to be applied to the inner surface of the side pieces or stiles of window-sashes so as to be entirely hidden from outside view. The extent of the opening of the sashes being determined by the distance apart the stops and guide-blocks are placed, which, consequently, regulates the length of movement of the rods.

The invention is clearly shown in the accompanying drawing, whereon Figure 1 represents the inside of a window frame, its upper and lower sash and my locking device in connection with same, Fig. 2 is a vertical crosssection of the adjacent portions of the two sashes with my device applied thereto, Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of the locking device, the window sashes and a part of the window frame, and Figs. 4, 5, 6, and 7 are detail views of the locking device all of which are hereinafter fully described.

On the drawing the letter A designates a window frame and B, B the sashes thereof.

As a substitute for the set-screw, the guideblock may be provided with any known form of lock requiring a key for operating same.

It will be noted that the invention is not intended to be used to fasten the two sashes together so that they cannot be moved, but rather to permit the limited movement of one or both sashes the construction and application of my device being such as to permit of this being done with perfect safety, as it is obviously impossible to remove the locking device until both sashes 1 are completely closed.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. As a new article of manufacture, a sash holder, comprising the combination of a block having ends provided with oppositely projecting rods, each rod provided with a guide block slidable thereon, and means whereby the guide-blocks are secured to the upper and lower sashes of the window.

2. In a sash-holder the combination of a block having ends provided with oppositely projecting rods, an upper and lower guideblock having vertical holes to receive said rods, and means whereby the guide-blocks are secured to the upper and lower sashes of a window.
