IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-CHIIVINEYS.

To all ,whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HOMER Bnooxn, of the city,
county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Chimneys for Gas and Lamp-Burners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had'to the accompanying draw-- ings, which form part of this specification, and in which is represented a vertical section of a chimney for gas and lamp-burners, constructed according to my invention, supporting a shade.
This invention consists of a chimney for gas or lamphurners, constructed with an external rib, or projections, for support of the shade.
Referring to the accompanying drawings- A is a glass chimney, such as are ordinarily used upon lamps and gas-burners, except that it is constructed with a projection, or project-ions, a, for support of the shade B.
Said projection 0, though here'represented as a ring, or collar passing entirely around the chimney,
7 may also consist of two or more lugs, suitably spaced around it, so as to effect the same purpose, and yet allow of a freer expansion or contraction of the parts without danger of breakage.
This support is not confined to the arrangement shown in .the drawings, but may be situated suiiiciently low to support the base ot'a metalfiame upon which shades are sometimes supported.
I do not claim an annular internal groove in a chim ney-glass for sustaining a sun-or other like burner, as
represented in patent No. 80,138; but
What I claim as my invention, and desire to have secured by Letters Patent, is
A chimney for gas or lamp-burners, constructed with an external rib, or projections, for support of the shade, substantially as herein described.
