EFTQEQ CUFF-FASTENER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES HENRY HER- BERT HENDERSON, of Ottawa, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuff- Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in cuff-fasteners, and the objects of my invention are to provide an article of this class, which may be conveniently used for attaching a detachable cuff to the band on the shirt, and by means of which the cuff may be very readily attached and detached, without unnecessary soiling of the same; and it consists essentially of two separately-formed studs having the head of one connected to the base of the other by a suitable dome fastener, the studs being held in alinement with each other by suitable shoulders provided on each as hereinafter described.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view partially in section of the fastener. Fig. 2 is a side view with the parts separated. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the parts together. Fig. 4 is a section through a cuff showing the fastener in position.
Referring to the drawings, A and B represent two separately-formed studs of any suitable or desirable shape or form, commonly in use. In the embodiment illustrated, the stud A includes a head 10, shank 11 and base 12. The stud B includes a head 13,shank 14 and base 15.
In accordance with the present invention, means are provided for releasably fastening the head 13 into the base 12, and for holding the studs in axial alinement, this being accomplished by forming an ordinary spring dome fastener 16 011 the head 13, which is adapted to extend into and lock in a recess 17 in the base 12, the said studs having coacting annular flanges or faces 19 and 20 adapted to hold them in alinement with each other. It will be observed that the base 12 is formed with a substantially cylindrical outer surface and that said base is cast integral with the shank. It will be further seen that the head 13 is also provided with a smooth cylindrical outer surface of equal diameter with that of the base 12, whereby, when the two studs are joined together, a
Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 458,019.
I smooth continuous cylindrical surface will be formed and there will be no groove or space I at the joint. This is particularly advantal geous in preventing the separation of the j studs by a coat sleeve or other means engaging between the two.
In using the fastener, as illustrated in Fig. 4, the stud A is attached to the flap 1S usually provided on the cuff C, while the stud B is inserted through the button holes in the band D on the end of the shirt sleeve.
To fasten the cuff to the band, the dome fastener is snapped into the recess 17, where it will be securely held and will hold the cuff firmly in position. To unfasten, one stud may be turned with respect to the other, when the co-acting flanges or faces 19 and 20 will cause separation of the studs.
Attention is directed toward the faces 19 and 20 holding the studs in axial alinement. Without these, the rigidity of the fastener would be impaired, and the difficulty of separating the studs increased.
As many changes could be made in the above construction, and many apparently widely different embodiments of my invention, within the scope of the claim, could be made without departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in these specifications and drawings, shall be interpreted as illustrative, and not in a limiting sense.
What I claim as my invention is:
The combination of the stud button formed with a top shank, a solid base formed with a smooth cylindrical outer surface and a semispherical recess formed in said base, the said base and shank being cast integrally; of a second stud formed with a base, a shank, and a head having an outer cylindrical surface of equal diameter with the cylindrical base of the other stud, and a dome-shaped fastener on the head of the second stud adapted to lock in the semi-cylindrical recess in the base of the opposite stud.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
JAMES HENRY HERBERT HENDERSON.
