()IhTE-IPIEQLIL FOLDING SUIT CA SE OR BOX.,
Applioationflled June 24,
To all whom it may co'ncem:
Be it known that I, JosEPn RneENs'rErN, a
citizen of'the United States, residing in Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and'State of Georgia, have invented certain'new and useful Improvements in One-Piece Folding Suit -Casesth'or Boxesymd I do declare the follow ing to be a afiill} clear, and exact description '.0f the invention, such as will enable others or boxes, made of aper and designed to be printing thereon when in its folded fiat for pac ing or ship ing, and for at or folded condition. It has for its object to form a box consisting of a body portion and a cover or lid made from a single piece and bothformed alike, the sides and ends of each assuming a vertical position when in box or -case form and having reinforcing folds at their Outer cormm, and their corners where the lid is hinged to the body reinforced by locking tongues, as will be hereinafter more particularly specified, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a par-thereof, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective of the box or case with its parts in position for use; Fig. 2 is a blank; Fig. 5 a
pers ective of a portion of the blank out of whic the-case is formed; Fi 3 is a perspective of a portipn of the lid, s liowing one side and end partly turned up Fig. 4 is a erspective showing a ortion of one en fof the orizontal section through one corner of the' case, showing its corner fold locked; and Fig. 6 a similar section of one corner at the side where the lid and body portion are joined together.
The case is formed from a blank 1 which at its two opposite ends, between its corners, say midway between the corners, is slitted so as to form at each end a tongue 2, the blank, to each side of the tongues, being formed with slits 3, either or both of which may receive the tongues when the ends are turned, at right angles to the plane of the blank.
Opposite portions of the blank, between its ends, are folded upon itself to form a fold 4, and these folds are secured at their ends by suitable means, preferably by eyelets5 which in their preferre form are made with sockets Specification of Letters Patent.

6. The blank is creased transversely near its opposite ends, as indicated by dotted line 0, also longitudinally at its central tion,,between the tongues 2, as indicate by foldedortions 4, and also diagonallyat the ends oPthe-folded portions, as indicated by dotted Iine'c. These creases define the lines along which portions of the blank are bent to form the sides and ends and the reverse folds at the outside corners, and the locking the com lete box or case.
The b ank formed as described is adapted in its fiat form to have any matter desired used.
Fig.1 of the drawing shows the blank when shit ed ready for use as a complete box or. case, the outer sides being formed b the folded portions 4 turned at right ang as to the base portion 7 which may crinstitute either the top or bottom portion of thebox as desired. The ends are formed by the turned or bent end portions 8, and the rear, or side which joins the top and bottom portions being formed by the turned or bent ortion 9, this portion and the end portions eingllocked together by the tongues 2 passing t rough thefislits 3 as illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawing? the bottom portion of the ease, and if it be desired to lock the cover or lid in its closed position, the tongues 2 are assed through the slits 3 of the ends of the ottom portion as well as through the corresponding slits in the ends Of'the top portion, as illustrated in Fig. 6 of the drawing. If however it is not desired to lock the cover in itsclosed position, the tongues will pass throu h only one set of the slits 3, for instance as il ustrated in Fig. 1 pf the drawing. In either case however the tongues besides serving-as a lock inner corners. It will also be observed that the reverse folds 12 at the outer corners serve to stiffen and brace the box at surlcornersx It will further be observed that by fastening one member of the reverse folds at the corner to the portionseonstituting the ends of the box, the ends are broiight into a vertical position by lifting up the folded portongues, when, the blank is shaped to form printed on one face thereof, and also enables a number of the blanks to be compactly packed for shipment or storage until to be When the top cover or lid is closed its end W portions lie parallel with the end portions of dotted lines b b, also along the fold of the also serve to stiffen and brace the box at the tions which are to constitute the front sides of the box.
In some cases it may be desired to secure together the members of the reverse folds at the corners of the box. For that purpose one member of such folds may be provided with a headed stud 10, which is positioned so as to engage with the sockets of the eyelets which secure the endsof the folded o1 tions as illustrated in Figs. 2, 3, and 5, 0. the I fshapedto coiistitute a bod; ortion and a a drawing, thus lYroviding a fastening operating like the'we monly used on Wearin apparel This does not interfere with the ox being placed in its knock down condition for shipment 'o-r stonage I v .t a
'vegtomake, it can rea y be shaped by the miohant for use, it is given strength at the pointsfivhere it is subjected to the hardest u ,ihndoanbe readily locked in its closed to the customer, and. vl the customer. without docking if so con' fsending 7 Hearing described my invention and setforth its merits, what 1 claim is 1. A suit case or box formed ,lank
shaped to constitute a body porti'o a cover therefor, the cover and body 7 points-to receive said tongues for IDCkIIif known snep-fastenings coin- L case or box is com aratively'inexpen ortion each having a foldin .side and end wa ls, and a wall connecting e cover and body portions, said comiectliil awall having tongues at its ends, and the e of the cover and body portions" each donned with slits lat t 1e cozg'er tothe portion, substantia y as described.
2,1 box formed or a blank cover therefor, the cover and ody portions eachhaving an outer side wall and two end walls, the outenwall to each portion being formed with'a reverse-fold at each end, one memberofeaoh of said folds being secured to the wall next thereto, ends in wall connecting the cover and body pohtion at their adjacentqedges, said folding wall having es at 'ts' iipposit'e ends to 'e age slits A t. =ip i fi siei stantiall 'j'iysidescribed.
In te's ony whereof I aflix my;signature in presence of two'witnessea-qi JOSEPH REGENSTEIN.
