I Fig.1.
W1 THEMES REUBEN GOHO, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
METAL-CEILING CONSTRUCTION.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, REUBEN GoHo, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Metal-Ceiling Constructions, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to metal ceiling constructions, composed of ornamental or plain metal sections or plates lock-jointed to each other, in position, and provided with concealed metal sup orts clampingly engaglng certain of the ock-jointed sections or plates, in position, in forming the metal ceilmg and adapted to be secured to joists or beams so as to provide required air space between such and the sections or plates, in position. To the foregoing end, my invention stated in general terms, consists of a metal ceiling construction, composed of lock-jointed sections or plates supported by 'means clampingly engaging certain of the united sections or plates and detachably secured to joists or beams so as to provide a surrounding air space and so as to conceal the supporting means from view when the res ective sections or plates are in position 100 -jointed to each other, substantially in the manner hereinafter described and claimed.
The nature, scope and characteristic features of my said invention will be more fully understood from, the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, in Which Figure 1, is an inverted plan view of a series of metal sections or plates lock-jointed to each other, to illustrate one form of a portion of a metal ceiling construction adapted for the employment of concealing supporting means therefor by clamping y engaging therewith and joists or beams embodying main features of my present invention.
' Figs. 2 and 3, are respectively sectional views on the lines as, x, and y, 'y, of Fig. 1. Fig. 4, is a top or plan view, enlarged, of one of said plates or sections, showing the engaging tongues thereof for entering a groove of a similarly arranged plate or section soas to become lock-jomted to each other, in osition. Fig. 5, is a perspective view the form or sha e of the supporting means for the united ock-jointed ceiling sections or plates, in position; and Fig. 6, 1s a transverse Specification of Letters Patent. sectional view on the line 2, z, of Fig. 4, show ing the integral arrangement by stamping and bending of the same.
Referring to the drawings 10, are metal sections or plates, one provided with a side tongue 11, and the other provided with a side groove 12, wherewith the ton ue 11, is adapted to be forced into or inserte so as to bring the meetin plain or ornamental edges of the fronts of t 1e sections or lates 10 and 10 into juxtaposition to each other at a, for example, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1.
13, is a Z-shaped supporting means struck up preferably, from sheet metal and provided in one transverse surface I), with struckup lips c, and in other transverse surface d, with openings 6, at suitable distances apart, for respectively, slipping the lips 0, onto a tongue 11", of a section or plate 10, and so as to be then bent down onto the same below a groove 12, into which the tongue 11, of a corresponding section or plate is adapted to be inserted as-clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and with the transverse part (1, adapted to be provided with openingse, brought into contact with a beam or oist A, to become fastened thereto by a nail or other fastening means 14, as to securely hold in suspende condition the said supporting means 13, therefrom; and also so as to provide a surbeams A, and sections or plates lock-jointed to each other, in position, and when so arranged, in duplicated series, constituting the ceilin construction, as clearly shown in Fig. 1. T e manner of lock-jointing the series of sections or plates to each other is clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The suspended rounding air space 15, between the joists or ranged therein, I expressly disclaim per se as of my present invention, but on the contrary only such features in a'sheathing when cou'led with sup orting means of certain con gurations an features in operative relation for use, as to their defined functions when combined, as hereinbefore explained, and specifically hereinafter claimed.
Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1 A metal ceiling construction, comprising I 5 a series of uniting sections or plates, one of said uniting sections or plates having a J flanged groove and the other having a tongue, in combination with a Z-shaped device for clam ingly engaging the rooved 10 member of sai uniting sections or ates so as to securely hold said tongue an groove sections together against detachment and in a supported position, substantially as and for t e purposes set forth.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set 15 my signature in the presence of two subscribmg witnesses.
