DRINKING-FOUNTAIN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 4, 1909.
Application led August 1?,.1907. Serial No. 388,939.
T o all whom it may concern:
Be 1t known that I, CHARLES A. CARo'rH- t fuvahoga and State ol Ohio, a citizen of the United States, have invent-ed or discovered certain new, and useful Improvements in Driliking-Fountains, of which improvements the following is a specilication.
The invention described herein relates to certain improvements in drinking fountains of they class or kind usually known as Artesian fountains, in which a bowl is provided and water is` perznitted to llow therein so as to keep the bowl in an overflowingl condition, and the water is drunk directly from this bowl. As heretofore constructed the water is discharged into the howl in line with the axis tluxreot', so that in case ol increase olf I'nessare in the supply, the water will be forced in jets up above the edge oll the bowl making'it dil'licult to obtain 'the water there- The present invention has for its object a construction wherein the water is discharged into the bowl at an angle to its axis, so that il' the pressure of the supply increases, the water will simply well upbodily for the entire area of the outlet orifice, and water can be obtained without difliculty.
The invention is lleriinal'ter more fully described and claimed.
ln the drawings forming a part of this specification is shown a sectioi'xal elevation ol' my improved fountain.
in the practice ol' my ixventitm the waste bowl l is supportwl by and connected with the waste pipe 2 in an \v suitable or desirilsd manner. ln the constriution shown the waste bowl is clamped by nut Z5 against the underside of a hollow head 5 within the liowh, The nut 3 screws onthe hollow tln'eaded i stern 4, fornied integral withthe head and adapted. to be connected by a sleeve or otherwise to the waste pipe 2. This'head 5 `is. provided with a hollow verticalextension 6 provided with lateral discharge uports 7, and to this vertical extension is secured the upper within the waste pipe. The drinking bowl S is secured to the head 1n such manner as to such `portion thereof as contains the disf `will be entirely filled; and the water will flow out in a body having a cross-section equal to the entire area of the outlet or mouth. the pressure is small, the level of the water at the `outlet will' only be slightly above thev plane of the upper edge of the bowl, but il the pressure is high, the water may well up but will assume a convex forni, and will not be in the form of a j et, which would interfere with the drinking of the water. The overllow water is caught in the bowl 1 and escapes through ports l0 into the waste pipe 2, said ports having a united area greater than the area of the outlet of the bowl 9.
I claim herein as my invention:
1. A. drinking fountain having in ooinbination an open ended howl, and an inlet nozzle projecting into the lower portion of the bowl having a closed end and provided with orts arranged to discharge the water into t ie bowl at an angle to the axis of the bowl.
A drinking fountain having in combination an open ended bowl, and an inlet nozzle projecting into the bowl and having a closed end and having ports arranged to discharge the water against the inner wall of the bowl.
23. A drinking fountainhaving in combination a bowl, having an opening at its upper end of a diameter less than the greatest internal diameter of the bowl, and a supply nozzle )rejecting into the bowl, and having a closed end, and provided with lateral'ports arranged to discharge the water at an angle to the axis of the bowl. l
4. A. drinking fountain having in colnbination a discharge nozzle having' a closed end and lateral openings for the discharge of water, and a bowl having an open upper end, said bowl surrounding the nozzle below its discharge openings and 4extending above suoli openings.
5. A drinking fountain having in o ombithe ports will flow in `d reosorro Contact nation a bowl'havng en opening in its top, with the iner wall of the bowl. en inlet nozzleprojeoting into the bowl and Ill-testimony whereof,- I have hereunto set having its upper epd, closed and be l0v v the my harxd.
55V edge of the opening n the top of the bowl CHARLES A. C AgROTHERS; and provided vwith discharge ports located Witnesses: l below the upper vedge of the bowl and at suol;A W. O. HENDERER, al; angle that, ell of the streams issuing from CHARLES BARNETT.
