- a citizen of the United States, residing at Bluefield, in the county of Mercer, State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Faucets: and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improvement in faucets of that type adapted to be 0perated by contact with a glass or the like.
This invention is particularly adaptedfor use in connection with soda-water fountains and other places which necessitate a quick acting faucet. I
The principal object of this invent-ion is to provide a novel construction of faucet which is provided with a novel construction of valves.
A further object of the invention is to provide a. faucet for the purpose described which is provided with a novel form of locking means whereby the said valve may be locked against its seat.
, A still further objectofthe inventionv is to provide'a device of this character which is composed of a minimum number of parts,

Like reference numerals designate corre- Referring to the drawing, the invention comprises a hollow head 5 which includes a top 6 and a side wall 7. Extending radially from the Wall .7 and communicating with the interior of the head, is a barrel 8 having its outer end 9 exteriorly threaded for engagement with any suitable liquid containing tank. Integral with the wall 7 and depending therefrom is a tapering tubular extension 10 constituting a valveseat and havipg an open lower end 11.
The invention further comprises a tubular-shell 12 having an open lower end 13 and having its upper end 14 connected integrally with the extension 10 at a point y thisponstruction it Willbe observed that the love: end portion of the extension 10 constit iptes a flange-15, which is disposed with-' in said tubular shell 12 to form a consequent annular recess 16 Seated Within the extension 10 is a valve 17, and'dispofsed between'the valve and the top 62 of the head is a coil spring 18, which normally tends to keep said valve seated sponding parts in all the figures of the drawagainst the extension 10. The shank 31 normally projects above and engages the valve 17 to retain the latter in its closed position. An operating key 34: is provided with a head 35, and projecting from saidhead is a plurality of fingers 86 adapted for engagement with the recesses 33 of the screw. By means of this tool it will be obvious that the set screw may be easily rotated and withdrawn from the path of movement of said valve 17.
Disposed around the outlet tube 21 is a plurality of tubular guides 37, and these guides are each retained in place by means of radially extending arms 38, the outer ends thereof being suitably connected to the tubular shell 12.
From the foregoing, it will be observed that when a glass or other receptacle is pushed upwardly against the arms 23 of the outlet tube 21, the valve 17 will be unseated and the funnel 24 will be disposed in rear of sult, liquid will flow through the barrel 8 into the head 5, through the extension 10 and into the funnel 2 1:, through the openings 27 and out through the lower end 22 of the tube 21, and into the glass. As soon as the upward pressure upon the arms 23. has been relieved, the spring 18 will cause the valve 17 to quickly seat itself.
Depending from the lower end of the outlet tube 21 and below the arms 23 is a, nozzle 39, which is adapted to be positioned within the mouth of a bottle. This nozzle is formed integral with the outlet tube and constitutes a means for directing the passage of liquid into the bottle, thereby avoiding any danger of the liquid being scattered. Secured to the inner end 9 of the barrel 8 is a screen 40 of any suitable construction, which will prevent any foreign matter from passing through the spigot.
What is claimed is:
1. A faucet comprising incombination, a head,'a valve seat connected to the head, a
- valve, a tubular shell extending from the vided with an opening near its inner end, a

3. A. faucet comprising in combination, a head, a tapering tubular extension constituting a valve seat integral with said head, a. valve, a tubular shell having its upper end connected with the extension at a pointintel-mediate the ends thereof, an outlet tube disposed within the shell and connected to the valve and provided with an opening near its inner end, a funnel extending from the tube below said opening, said funnel cooperating with the shell to guide the liquid into the opening of the tube when the valve isopen, the outer end of the funnel being adapted in one position to engage behind the lower end of the valve seat, am a spring disposed between the valve and the head for normally holding the valve closed.
