Description

@anni demini,
HIRAMv WHITNEY, OI" CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
Letters Patent No. 91,803, dated .Time 22, 1869.
IMPROVED DETACHABLE STOVEPIPE CLTHES-DRIER.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Mrk-
To all 'whom @1t/may concern:
Be it known that I, HIRAM WHrrNnY, of Chicago, in the county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented an Improvement in Detachable Stove-Pipe Clothes-Driers; and I do hereby declare 4that the following is Va full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the aecompanying drawings, and letters marked thereon, lmak ing a part of this description, in which- Fignre l is a perspective representation of my invention.
Figure 2, a broken elevation of the under side, showing how the parts are clamped together.
Figure 3, a broken plan View, showing the form of the joint.
Figure 4, a section, showing how the arms of the drier are held in place.
The present invention relates to an improvement in that class of clothes-driers which is attached to a stove-pipe, and has removable arms; and its nature consists in the novel means employed to hold the t-wo parts together, and in providing a rim for supporting the lugs which hold the arms in place.
AB represent a two-part collar, which is supported by circular rims H, and which supports a series of ings,
D E, placed such distances apart as to receive a series of arms I', and supported at their outer ends by means of rimsC. Y y
These rims support the under parts of the arms I, as shown at gs. 1 and 4, and the flanges m support their upper parts, at their inner ends. The arms P being notched out at the places where they bear on the rims C, are so held in place as not to be detached 'unless their outer ends are raised up.
The joint G F consists simply of two hooks, having a depth dorresponding to the width of the rims H,- and fastening loosely into each other, in order that the parts A B may be connected after they are placed upon the pipe \V. 4
The device for clamping the parts A Bftogether consists of a rod, K, provided with hooks at each end, which pass through diverging slots J J, figs. I and 2, and clamp the parts clofspelyjothe pipe, as they are moved outwardtoward the rims C, one of the slots being enlarged at I, tig. 2, to allow the rod K to pass through.
The means for holding the parts A B to the pipe are very substantial, and readily allow the device to be removed when it is not required for use.
Having thus described my invention, j
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
In the construction of detachable stove-pipe clothesdriers, the two-part clamp A B, provided lwith an interlocking joint, or hinge, F G, a rim, C, slots J I, in combination with rod K and arms P, as and for the purpose specified.
' c HIRAM \VHITNEY. [L. 5.] W'it'nesses:
GEO.' F. GLAsnR,
J. EBENMNG.
